Anybody else notice Ward's hair is cut uneven in the back by the nape of his neck? Bugs me to no end. Someone should have been watching out for him. He is stylish in every other way.

I'll bet when Scrabjan1 see this, she'll have noticed. I hadn't, but I can't help but look after reading this.

I have never noticed the back of Ward’s neck and hairline uneven. Is this in Season 2. I’m just looking at his sexy face and how he wears clothes. In School Picture he’s bald on top.
I have noticed Beaver’s uneven bangs and that’s cute. I love how the kids in LITB had their own style. They weren’t cutesy at all just real kids. Charles Fredericks was an average looking kid and Judy too. Larry was brilliant and perfectly natural. Whitey was a riot how he would beam. Nowadays if you’re a kid on TV you would have to be drop dead gorgeous. |

Beaver was noticeably more tidy and clean cut in the first two seasons, it was in the third season that the producers apparently wanted to go for the unkempt look and messy hair. Then by the end of the series he was back to being more clean cut.

Ward had a classic tapered neckline, as did Wally, Eddie, and pretty much every male character on the show. Beaver's, especially by the 6th season wasn't tapered quite as tight. In the two 5th season episodes: BEAVER'S LONG NIGHT and BEAVER'S ENGLISH TEST, Gilbert's neck and sides are tapered extremely tight, right down to the skin. Both Eddie and Lumpy have shorter haircuts in some of those 5th season episodes as well.
Barbers have various techniques when tapering: some use guards on the clippers gradually taking it down to the skin, but most from that era would have free handed the taper with no guard. Sometimes a taper can look a bit choppy, or a bit too high, especially today if one's barber is more used to squaring off the neckline. Ward's hair was longer and fuller on the sides and back, then blended into a very tight taper. In some episodes, Ward's neckline looks like he's due for a trim, especially in WALLY'S HAIRCOMB. Also he looks to have a scar on the back of his head where the longer hair blends into the taper. I always thought Wally's taper looked perfect in most episodes. |
