***MAJOR ORIGINAL SCRIPT SPOILERS***
ACT I Hey, what's with the cast list?? All the names are spelled right! ![]() Did anyone else notice the Make-Up, Hair, and Wardrobe times don't match up with the other times? ![]() "It's nice, but Eastland's scholastic program is more impressive than some trinket on a shelf" --- wow, what a clunker of a line! (and a trophy that large is obviously not a "trinket", with all due respect, Mr. Murray) "You'd think that little 'E' makes their daughter Tracy Austin" --- I keep forgetting to Google that to see whoever this 1970s Tracy Austin person is. I guess some fast runner before our time!HAHA they have Sue Ann and Cindy entering in "track clothes" instead of just "track shoes"! ![]() And only Tootie says she's winning at checkers? Interesting---I'm so glad they added Nat's version of the line to show they can't even tell who's winning. That's a cute moment there.Aww, they added in Mrs. Garrett's pride of my Cindy! "Well all riiiiiiight!" ![]() "Mol"? "Mol"! Aww, they at first had Mrs. Garrett call Molly "Mol"---isn't that cute, Lorsie and Retrikins? ![]() (CINDY DOES A BACK FLIP) --- wow, it's a good thing Julie Ann Haddock just happened to be a gymnast! haha (I'm sure they probably checked with her first, lol) Interesting, here it's Eastland "ladies" humidify, but in the aired script it's "girls". "There's a new girl at Schenectedy High who runs so fast no one's ever seen her face" --- I'm pretty sure that's not the aired line! ![]() Ah, at first they had Mr. Bradley not even speak to Cindy saying Cindy hasn't run in competition, he just didn't respond to Cindy at all and spoke only to Sue Ann! I'm glad they changed it to have him deliver his line to Cindy instead. Funny, they scratched out Tootie's "Yeah" and put "That's right" instead, but on the aired show she goes back to "Yeah", lol! Hey, we learn about Sue Ann's summer plans! She'll be spending the summer in Wichita! (and Nancy is being very good at wallpaper here---she hasn't even appeared on camera yet! It's the other 6 girls and the 2 adults! Poor Felice...in nearly every scene in the backdoor pilot, and they don't even give her a background appearance here yet...) (GIRLS REACT AND CHANT, "CINDY, CINDY, CINDY,") (shot of Blair enthused with others) I always LOVED that chant!! The best thing Natalie Green ever did was to start "the Cindy chant"! There was nothing like being a little boy watching your favorite Eastland girl be chanted for by all the girls! ![]() (and I just realized, I remember Nancy's there for the chant, but she wasn't there earlier...she must have really made a quiet, non-fussy entrance somewhere in here) Bradley: (turning to Cindy) "Cindy it is." --- I much prefer the aired show, where he throws his hands up in defeat and says with a chuckle of "I give up!", "Alright, alright! Cindy it is!" (all girls cheer)---that's right they all cheer! For CINDY!! ![]() Oo, Blair had a cut line! --- "Hey, wait. I don't get excited about.....these things." (can't make out that missing word) Interesting... Oo! A CUT SCENE!! WOW!! Garrett: "Yeah, the President runs." Molly: "And he fainted." ![]() Interesting though they have Natalie say, "It's healthy", whereas you would think they would give that line to, maybe, Molly, for instance. Sue Ann: "Yeah, let's all support Cindy!" Cindy: "Hey, thanks, guys. I won't let you down. I'm gonna win." --- awwww! Oh man, I really wish these lines had been kept in!! BUT---it's also a natural and great way to end the scene with "the Cindy chant" and Bradley's defeat! (SHE STARTS THE "ROCKY" THEME. THE GIRLS JOIN IN. FINALLY, BLAIR ALSO JOINS IN) hahahahaha!! That would have been so funny! (and so dated!!) Ohhhhh, look, now we're in the school gym! So THAT'S why they all start running together!! Wow, I never actually really wondered why they all run together, but now seeing the cut scene, it makes perfect sense why they do! Aha, they have Sue Ann remind them they all volunteered for the running program, as a "make-up" for the cut scene. "Nancy" doesn't get a mention until page 13!! (and one line on page 14!) Hey! Blair was supposed to get a stylish running suit, and she didn't! "Wardrobe!!" lol "Roger gets excited at supermarket openings." Interesting! In the aired show they change it to "Roger gets excited in haircuts.", lol---the "haircuts" makes him sound weirder, but the "supermarket openings" makes him sound cornier, haha---I like that one! It's too bad they didn't put there, "(NANCY REACTS)", haha. (GARRETT, IN STUNNING TRACK SUIT) --- haha! Oo, they made the girls really intense in the competition by adding "winning, winning!" to Mrs. Garrett's originally solo "winning". Oo, they added "You know their schoolwork is suffering.", but they didn't keep that line. Interesting. I wonder if Cindy's "How could I pass you on the right?!" became "Who could pass you on the right?!" because perhaps Julie Anne was really getting in the heat of the moment? ![]() (CINDY PUSHES SUE ANN) Get 'er, Cinds!! LOL Blair: "Owww!!!!" LOL!!! I'm sorry Blair, no offense, but that just looks hilarious written out! And interestingly, they don't have Blair falling dramatically to the sofa in a burst of domestic-violence-victimness like the aired show does---she just "stands"! lol (THE GIRLS ARE GLARING) --- at first I thought that meant the background girls, and I was like, "Why are they glaring??" lol, then I realized that means Cindy and Sue Ann! So in the script, Bradley and Garrett pull the girls apart, Blair is hit, and the fighting stops. But in the aired version, those two blonde boxers are still going at it, right past the camera fade-out! Love it!!

ACT II
"What do you mean it sounds sexy?" --- they cut that out? But Felice sure didn't! lol And if memory serves, I believe she says he is sick and depraved, but not that he is "degenerate". (SHE HANGS UP PHONE WITH FORCE) "with force"?? That's silly! At least, the way she delivers the farewell, she's not in a huff, she's cool and "la-de-da". I wonder if the producers tried to smooth down Felice's ruffled "WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CHARACTER?!?" feathers by really building this up: "Nancy is VITAL to the plot! She is the GREEK CHORUS for the beginning of Act 2! Page 25 is AAAAAAAALLL NANCY! She is the ONLY ONE who speaks! For the ENTIRE PAGE!" ![]() I always like that line where Molly confirms Sue Ann and Cindy "have been best friends all year!" ![]() Oo! Another cut Blair line! But, unlike Nancy, when they cut Blair lines, there are still plenty of Blair lines! lol "It serves you right. I told you you were too old to be running around like a kid." "too old"?? She's, like, 15! ![]() Nancy: "What's the difference? We're talking about Cindy!" -- I always picture Felice there thinking, "We're sure as hell not talking about Nancy!! " lol"and she talked me into running" became "She's the one who got me into running!" Interesting...#MajorCindyGeek ![]() Cindy gets "bored" at the mention of Roger, lol! They have Cindy refer to Sue Ann as a "creep" in the script, but it's "jerk" on camera. "Jerk" does sound more like something coming from a tomboy. Also, this is a VERY interesting scene on its own for the fact that, whereas in the previous scene we had Blair and Sue Ann and Tootie, 3 of the biggest players of season 1 in the same scene, where Blair and Sue Ann have been together through so many episodes, and Blair and Tootie have had some time together, but in the gym we have the VERY RARE combo of Cindy, Natalie, and Nancy---never again do we ever see a scene of these three together! Molly's line "Tails, Cindy drops out" became the succinct, "Tails, Cindy does". Also, this is very interesting, and something I never thought of before. Tootie and Molly come down the stairs as the negotiating spokesgirls. Molly and Tootie were seen to be friends in "The Return of Mr. Garrett" when Molly called Tootie over to communicate with Harvey, Molly's dead hamster. And here they are being co-negotiating spokesgirls. A nice little echo of their friendship. ![]() Wow, they had Mrs. Garrett call them "guys" at first, instead of "girls"! lol...that does feel weird using "guys" on such a heavy female show, like if Rose walked in on "The Golden Girls" and said, "Hey, guys!" lol I like how Cindy remarks on Mrs. Garrett's printmaking more than Sue Ann does. ![]() (TO BRADLEY, INDICATING ANGRY GIRLS) ![]() Bradley's "looking" to knock 5 seconds off becomes "hoping" to knock 5 seconds off. Oh wow, cut dialogue all about trophies! Interesting! I like Mrs. Garrett's: "I don't know why they call these things 'loving cups'. This hasn't generated any love around here." "Now neither one of you is standing next to somebody she hates" --- I much prefer the aired show, with the active stance of "has to" instead of the passive "is", along with the ending intensity of Blasting Garrett™ : "Now neither of you has to stand next to someone she hates!" Oo! A cut Sue Ann line! Cindy: "I never said I hated her." Sue Ann: "No." Hmm, interesting they cut that... "When I heard you beat my record, I saw red"....seeing red became "I was jealous". That's right, Sue Ann's not a bull, she's a human, lol. (HAND EXTENDED, GARBOESQUE) ---haha! Awww, "End of Show"---sniff! lol... WOO-HOO!! A semi-Cindy script!! THANK YOU "SANTA RETRO"!!! LOL

So they gave her back her previously-cut line, "What do you mean it sounds sexy?" Quote:

Yep! They noticed it, too. Dominick's theory, that Felice must have offended the writers somehow, is an intriguing one. Why else would they refuse to even give her character a nervous habit? |

True reminds me of Family Matters with Judy, so many times they could've just referenced her, even before her character was living wallpaper. I remember one episode when Harriette's long lost father returns she says "I see Carl with Laura *long beat* and think how I never had that", I wonder if they muted her saying, "Or Carl with Judy", it was a really odd long pause, but why not mention her?

Well, even though Nancy doesn't tell us her upset-coping habit (not nervous, upset, lol), if you think about it, it's in character for her the way she does it. She does start to ponder it, but then she snaps herself out of it because they're there for their friend, and she feels they need to get back on track with the matter at hand. That's "practical" Nancy for you, also caring more about her friends than herself (hey, maybe that's it---maybe the writers figure Nancy cares more about other girls speaking than herself, so that's why the writers skimped on giving her lines, haha). |
