"Transparent" Musical Headed to Amazon Next Fall
"Transparent" Musical Headed to Amazon Next Fall
by Maureen Lee Lenker Dec. 7, 2018 "Transparent" will be returning to a TV near you — in musical form. Series creator Jill Soloway is bringing a musical version of their transgender family dramedy to Amazon, according to a New York Times profile published this weekend. The two-hour musical will be shot later this year, eyeing a premiere date next fall. The project marks the first continuation of "Transparent" since star Jeffrey Tambor’s firing from the show in February, in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment. “It will hopefully feel like Jesus Christ Superstar mixed with La La Land mixed with Flight of the Conchords with something more Jewish thrown in,” Soloway said of the musical. “A little Yentl.” Jill Soloway's sister, Faith Soloway, who is also a writer and producer on "Transparent", originally conceived of the musical before creating the series, and it’s had a few small performances at Joe’s Pub in New York City. The musical centers not on Tambor’s character, Maura, but instead on Judith Light’s Shelly Pfefferman and her inner life and challenges in the wake of her ex-spouse’s coming out. “This idea of music rescuing our family was all there,” Soloway told the Times. “So we’re like, Let’s just keep blowing on the flame. The Pfeffermans will live on, and that’s what kept us going and then Jen Salke sat down with me and told me, ‘It’s going to be OK.’ So we just kept singing.” https://ew.com/tv/2018/10/14/transpa...-jill-soloway/ |

"Transparent" Musical Finale to Begin With Death of Jeffrey Tambor's Maura
by Ryan Schwartz April 11, 2019 "Transparent" creator Jill Soloway has confirmed that Jeffrey Tambor‘s Maura will meet her demise in the Amazon dramedy’s previously announced musical finale. In a new interview with the L.A. Times, Soloway said that Maura will die off-screen, with the two-hour sendoff focused on the Pfefferman family’s grieving process. “We were all in mourning in many ways, and we all had to process together,” Soloway explained. “The show has always been a reflection of who we were, and we were mourning our own narrative.” "Transparent" was previously renewed for a fifth and final season, which was pushed back following the firing of Tambor, who was accused of sexual misconduct by co-star Trace Lysette. It was eventually decided that the series would forgo a final season and instead conclude with a movie-length musical, which has now been dubbed The Transparent Musicale Finale. Returning series regulars Judith Light, Amy Landecker, Jay Duplass and Gaby Hoffmann will be joined by returning guest stars Kathryn Hahn, Cherry Jones, Melora Hardin, Tig Notaro, Rob Huebel, Alexandra Billings and Lysette. https://tvline.com/2019/04/11/transp...usical-finale/ |
