Default Antenna TV Now Owned by Nexstar (see post 14)

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...n-reuters-says

This is a change of ownership for Antenna TV, This TV, and WGN America, and a lot of local stations.

I hope Nextar will end the credit crunch on Antenna TV.

There are quite a few places where Nexstar and Tribune both have stations. I'd think there would be some monopoly concerns that would require a selloff. For instance, here in Indianapolis there are 2 primary Tribune stations, and a Nexstar station. I used Wikipedia to compare and found more (but not all--comparisons are difficult due to the haphazard arrangement of Nexstar stations on Wikipedia). Here are some cities I found that have Tribune and Nexstar stations:

Huntsville, Alabama
Fort Smith/Fayetteville, Arkansas
Hartford/New Haven, Connecticut
Quad Cities, Illinois/Iowa
Indianapolis, Indiana
Ames/Des Moines, Iowa
Memphis, Tennessee

Memphis is where I am. Tribune owns WREG CBS 3 and Nexstar owns sister stations WATN ABC 24 and WLMT CW 30.

I'd think these potential 3 station markets would really be a problem, and a selloff would be required.

Antenna TV's credit crunches can be annoying, but for me what's worse than the credit crunches is the editing done to the shows so more commercials can be fit in.

For example, I like The Joey Bishop Show but would prefer that Antenna TV run the episodes uncut instead of the hack jobs they air with about 3 minutes of each episode missing. Edited is better than nothing but uncut shows would be so much better.

Will have to see if the Nexstar deal results in changes to Antenna TV or other Tribune stations.

It's so weird that Antenna runs uncut versions of some of their shows like Alice and Soap, but with shows like The Joey Bishop Show and Good Morning World, they have 3+ minutes removed. Still, the Viacom networks like Logo are worse with removing about 6 minutes instead from their shows and stuffing in more commercials.

I don't know why Antenna TV runs some shows uncut while others are edited, but I agree it's strange. You're correct about Logo being worse with the editing.

With The Joey Bishop Show, it's too bad the complete series DVD that was released turned out to be no good, it has the same edited episodes that Antenna TV is running. The only hope now is for another DVD studio to acquire the series, release it again and do it properly with uncut episodes.

The distributor of the Joey Bishop Show, SFM, doesn't appear to have a good track for unedited episodes as I think they are the ones also in charge of The Real McCoys (someone can correct me on this) and all 6 seasons on DVD and DVD-R had cut up episodes, which was too bad. However, they also own Good Morning World and I think that DVD had uncut episodes so I guess it just depends? Another possibility is that SFM created the batch of edited episodes for Antenna TV to air, and that they figured The Joey Bishop Show DVDs were just quick cash grabs and didn't spend much time on it. I don't know if Shout Factory could've scored uncut prints, but maybe. At least Season 2 of Joey Bishop on DVD was unedited first time around.

The Joey Bishop complete series DVD came direct from SFM, and I agree they did it as a quick cash grab without concern for unedited episodes. Questar is the company that released season 2 with uncut episodes, I don't know if they're still in business but if Questar had done the complete series maybe the episodes would be uncut.

RTV is another channel that airs Joey Bishop and their airings are more complete than Antenna TV's airings. But now I can no longer watch Joey Bishop on RTV because some other program is being shown during the Joey Bishop time slot. I wonder if Antenna TV has something to do with that.

This is supposedly the last item needed, to get approval for Nexstar to buy the Tribune stations. So I would imagine that soon Antenna TV will be owned by Nexstar.

Under this deal, Nexstar would also own 31% of the Food Network.

That's a large piece of the pie!

From Wikipedia:

On March 20, 2019, Nexstar announced that it would divest 19 stations to the E. W. Scripps Company and Tegna Inc. for a total sum of $1.32 billion, with Scripps receiving eight stations (WPIX, WSFL, WTKR and WGNT, WTVR, WXMI, KSTU, and KASW), and Tegna eleven (WATN and WLMT, WTIC and WCCT, WOI and KCWI, WNEP, WPMT, WQAD, WZDX, and KFSM). The sale agreement for WPIX/New York, however, includes a condition allowing Nexstar to buy it back between March 31, 2020 and December 31, 2021. That station was valued at $75 million. Nexstar stated that these divestitures would be used to help fund the sale and cover debt.

The merger has been approved by the FCC and closed today. So Antenna TV is now owned by Nexstar.

There really needs to be regulations on how many commercial breaks these networks are allowed to show. There are wayyyy too many commercials on Television. It's called greed.
