When Ward and June and going to see a Mrs. Thompson and her new baby. They bring a gift that Ward ridicules. While they’re gone something happens. Could it be Chuckie’s Shoes I always avoid that one.

I'll check that episode and let you know. Yet another Thompson, huh?

Yes, I just saw that episode. Poor Wally getting blamed for an adult shirking their responsibility.

I’ll try to catch it next time. I remembered her name was Thompson and thought she said Miss.

Right now I'm subjecting myself to Chuckie's New Shoes.
You're right, here's Ward's line: No, Miss Thompson had a new baby. We're going over to the hospital to see her and her little boy. Later, when W&J arrive home: W: Say, were those our flowers in that little porcelain bootie? J: Uh-huh. W: You'd think the florist would have had a little more taste than to send something as corny as that in our name, wouldn't you? (June stares at him.) W: What's the matter? J: I went down there yesterday and picked those out. W: Between you and Uncle Charlie I guess this is just not my day, huh? (Ward had made an earlier comment about how he mentioned that the baby looked like an Uncle Charlie, who June says is the one they never talk about.) (Dissolve to next scene, with Beaver and Chuckie at the show store.) |

Thanks for the whole scene and remember the Uncle Charlie reference but the “Miss” Thompson is really strange. I remember they edited out the whole conversation when they get back.

No way of knowing, but my bet is that he blew the line as written and the director didn't catch it. Had the script actually read that way, Connelly and Mosher would probably have changed it.
Yeah, it looks like something MeTV would cut. |

Wow Jack just brought up the thread about Thompson. He mentions most of them including Mr. Thompson, a neighbor who let Wally have that old birdcage that June wants out of her kitchen. Also in Beaver’s First Date a Mrs. Thompson invites Wally to be a chaperone at the dance when Beaver asks Betsy Patterson to the dance.

The show's head writers, Bob Mosher and Joe Connelly met while they were both working for the J. Walter Thompson Agency in New York City.
Do you think they liked using the name Thompson a lot for that reason? Or am I reaching? |
