The fact that today is Black Friday makes me think of a "Mad About You" episode that I saw a long time ago. That year, the Buchmans were hosting Thanksgiving Dinner. There were a lot of people there and they decided to go around the room and give everyone a chance to tell the group what he or she is thankful for. Various members of the party gave thanks for their careers and the accomplishments of their children and all sorts of things that someone like Lisa Stemple could only dream about. When it became Lisa's turn, she said "and I'm thankful that I'm going to therapy tomorrow"! This was one of many occasions throughout the series in which she offered sympathy to herself. The thing about the situation that caught my attention was the fact that therapy was available the day after Thanksgiving. One thing that I happen to know is that stores and restaurants tend to be wide open on that Friday. It is, if not the biggest, at least one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Once open a time, I worked at a place called Edison Sheltered Workshop. They were open Monday thru Friday on a regular basis. However, they were a wimpy little operation that would do anything to give people the day off. They were closed President's Day, Good Friday, even Election Day. Needless to say, they would close from Thanksgivings Day all the way to the next Monday. Once, I was a client at a clinic that did psoriasis research. They were also closed on Black Friday. What to you guys think of the institution where Lisa went for her therapy being open the day after Thanksgiving?
