Elvia Allman - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Love the great character actress, she had some big shoes to fill as the show's resident foe of Granny (after Bea Benaderet and Harriet MacGibbon) and she did a great job. Elverna Bradshow rocked! Of course, she also played a near duplicate character, Selma Ploutt, on several Petticoat Junction episodes. Since the cast of both series made appearances on the show, it would have been fun if on one program there would have been an acknowledgement of both Elverna and Selma - perhaps mentioning they were twin sisters or something. It would have been fun to see Elvia play both characters on an episode of BH or PJ - talk about double trouble!!

I give the writers kudos for continuity with the Elverna character. She briefly appeared just once in an early black and white episode, then the same character with the same actress playing her was revived and became a central part of the much later Silver Dollar City episodes and others that followed. That kind of attention to continuity was very uncommon on most of the sitcoms of that era.
