Unless you are me. I got nothing but air, and no responses to anything, fwiw. I caution others-- be on your toes with this one.

Once I knew this guy, unrelated to this trade or board, who collected 16mm film. Still does. I say "knew" since I've had no contact with him for over 10 years, now.
This guy had (and, I'd wager, still has) a copy of the Three Stooges' swan-song, Kook's Tour, on one very nice 16mm print. Original? No clue. Still images that I saw showed very good color, much better than the 8mm dubs that fans are familiar with. Long story less painful, guy wouldn't sell the print. Wouldn't loan, project or even let anyone hold the print for fear of damage. There had, apparently, been failed negotiations with Comedy-III (Stooge-related rights holders) for a purchase of the print for home video distribution, but they wouldn't pay the ransom he expected. Basically, he wanted to retire on that print, alone. Maybe it is not that extreme for video traders, but I'm sure that some folks who collect, trade and, yes, hoard video get quite attached to their "babies" and value them quite highly. I've dealt with a lot of different personalities in various online trades/sales/loans.. and, sometimes, stuff like this happens. There is a kind of "traders remorse" that kicks in, kind of a 6th sense, that spooks some folks and they back out and, on occasion, avoid contact with people. I guess they get so protective of their "work" they don't want to get hoo-dooed by Joe-Nobody. Funny that Sean McPhail isn't very "vocal" at this point, though. If I did something horribly wrong, I'd like to make it right, but I can't do that if I'm just ignored. In all fairness, there's very little that could be considered wrong, except that two people agreed on a 1:1 video trade, and one side just cut off all communication. Still, I suspect some serious verbal bashing is headed my way via this public forum, followed by some drive-by "take that!" emails, since this has gotten more attention than, well, I guess it really deserves. Potential traders beware, and all. And I do love the tasty irony cast upon the forum by me: every time I reply to this thread, it puts "Seanmc1114 is a good trader" at the top of the reading list! Doesn't make it true, unfortunately. |
