Default Modern Family reruns now completely ruined

SPOILER alert for anyone not familiar with the "death" on the show.

Well, they have completely ruined MODERN FAMILY reruns by killing off Dee Dee. Jay, Claire, and/or Mitchell bitch about her in virtually every other episode so now that she's dead their comments will be rather bitter when watching the reruns. Worse, they've painted themselves in a corner, you don't get over a mother's death in a week or two. People grieve for years. How are these characters supposedly going to "bounce back" overnight credibly - and if they drag the grieving out it turns this show into a comedy-drama which NOBODY wants. If they wanted to kill somebody off why not one of stupid boyfriends of Haley, particularly that unappealing idiot Andy, they could have a "sad" episode and move on completely in a week or two, how can they possibly do that with Dee Dee unless these characters really are the selfish, heartless jerks they are occasionally portrayed as.

Dee Dee was Jay's ex-wife and the mother of Claire and Mitchell, played brilliantly by Shelly Long. I can't stand Long, but I thought Dee Dee was a great character. I agree with the OP. A very stupid move to kill her off.

Honestly, I can't watch any Lily scene without thinking of that one Family Guy cutaway joke. You know the one.

It was mean, and she's just a kid...but they're not wrong.

LOL, I was a little "severe" in my OP but still I think bumping of Dee Dee was a mistake and it's a little creepy when you think how little the characters mourned their mother on later episodes.

Re Lily, she gets a bad rap I think mainly from guys who just can't stand kid actors, especially girl ones. I found her deadpan delivery hilarious when she was very little and the young lady is still a better actress than most sitcom players in her age range.

Nah, since she got older, she delivers every line in the same monotone. Which as I said I can't unsee after FG called attention to it.
