Please excuse me for disagreeing with this idea. If Family Ties is brought to DVD and VHS, then it will appear less and less on cable tv for selling purposes, it might even disappear. It's gonna cost a fortune to buy these DVDs and VHS and they might not even contain all the episodes, when you can tape all of them free from tv.

Where I live, you can only see Family Ties on Nick-at-Nite at 2:00 (soon, 4:00) in the morning. I realize that other places may have it on different stations and times, but for me, staying up until 2:00 is almost impossible. Also, I think that if Family Ties was brought to DVD or VHS, you could see the complete and uncut version. I know a lot of times, portions of syndicated shows are cut out for network purposes. I would just like to see the episodes in their entirity.

Family Ties Quotes:

Mallory: Alex, I told you whenever you take a message to write down who called, when they called, and what it was about.
Alex: I did. Somebody stupid called, sometime today, about something trivial.
Mallory: Alex, you know that could be ANY one of my friends.

Mallory: I know you came into my room and read my diary Alex!
Alex: Don't be silly, I just came into your room to get a book.
Mallory: Ha! What would a book be doing in my room!
Alex: *shrugs* She's got me there.

Mallory: You guys, I would like you to meet someone. This is Jamie Carter.
Alex: AHHH!!!! *jumps onto Steven's lap*
Steven: Alex, she said "Jamie" not "Jimmy".
Alex: *to Jamie* Oh. You should seriously consider getting that changed.

Jennifer: There is nothing like a smile from a hunk.
Mallory: I know, it's even better than when you walk into your
classroom and you see a movie projector set up.

Yeah, danielle17. The stations just air shows too early in the morning (or late, depending on how you look at it.) When Family Ties used to air on TBS, I think it was on at like 6am or 7am in the morning. Way too early to get up to see it. I'd like to see the complete and uncut versions of the episodes, too. Hopefully, the uncut episodes will be released sooner or later on VHS or DVD.

Hi, I am new to the FT board, but I have been a fan of MJF since the mid 80's. When I bought a DVD player, I eagerly searched for Family Ties on DVD. I felt hopeful about it because alot of the older sitcoms were out on DVD (like the Jeffersons, All In the Family, etc.). I find it extremely hard to believe that Family Ties has not been considered for DVD. It was such a part of pop culture back when it was originally out in the 80's (heck, even Alex and Ellen's goodbye song became a hit BECAUSE it was on Family Ties (Billy Vera and the Beaters "At This Moment"). I was a teenager in the 80's so I remember it from the first time it was on. Anyway, I'm thinking maybe the legal part is holding it up from being released. Maybe the creator of TV studio will not sell the rights to put it on DVD. Anyone else think this, too? - Kelly

I got a response from Columbia House Canada today via email. Here is what they said:

We appreciate your suggestion. It has been forwarded to the appropriate department for consideration. Thank you!
A contract must be negotiated with a distribution company before we can offer videos/dvds from them. Sometimes, we are unable to negotiate these contracts, therefore, we are unable to offer all movies currently on video/dvd.

Sincerely,
