Default MTV Classic Almost 2 Years Later: Thoughts?

I remember being a bit excited before MTV Classic launched on August 01st, 2016. I remember feeling happy knowing the possibility of classic MTV returning to the airwaves to make up for the pile of trash that MTV is today.

August 01st came and went, and I was happy to see MTV's first hour of programming. I also liked the fact they played older music videos and was glad to see older MTV programs return to TV, such as MTV Unplugged, Aeon Flux, Daria, and Jackass, just to name a few. I did notice that they were also airing Beavis and Butt-head, but was disappointed to find out it was only episodes from the 2011 revival, which lasted only 22 episodes. They did sprinkle in an old MTV bumper every once in a while, but not as much as NickSplat does.

Fast forward to 2018, look where we are now. Nielsen statistics show MTV Classic was the least watched cable network in the country in 2016, with an average of 31,000 viewers. When you do there math, that's almost 620 people per state. In 2017, MTV Classic revamped their schedule, removing all shows and replacing it with a 24 hour music video lineup, and that's what the current schedule is now. I haven't watched the network since the beginning of 2017 (I never watched it that much at all) and I personally think the network is a waste of space and just needs to be taken off the airwaves, because a channel that only averages 30,000 viewers shouldn't be on the air at all.

With all that being said, what's your takeaway of MTV Classic? Do you feel any different about it now compared to its launch in 2016? If you were Viacom, would you get rid of the network?

I would make it classic NICKELODEON during the day and Classic NICK at NITE at NITE.Not the same shows but the actual Schedule that ran in the 1980’s & 1990’s.

I haven't watched MTV Classic, I didn't know it started 2016.. All I know is NickMusic started in Aug 2016 and they air those current music videos.

I think MTV classic should air music videos in the past.. maybe it shouldn't be removed. Even if ratings aren't great..

This channel will be gone soon as well as TRL ( a show that has been retooled 7 times this year)\

MTV classic should have been HD instead of being lazy and just replacing an SD feed of an old channel.

They shouldn't have even tried to do this. The same people who complain about MTV no longer caring about music are the same people who didn't watch the channel in the first place.

I've never been a MTV Classic viewer before. If the Music Videos from the pre-2000 MTV era were the main attention of MTV Classic then the the channel itself should've rebroadcasting old MTV music programs from the 80s & 90s only on the few parts of the schedule should i can watch it more.

Why would any company (Viacom) keep a channel that is the least-watched channel? They're nuts! (And why would Comcast keep it on, and NOT have Boomerang?)

My vote is with what Merry24 said.
