Question In you opinion, what is the most underrated TV show of the last 2 decades?

What modern or modern-ish TV show do you feel doesn't get the love or attention it deserves? Why do you like it /why does it deserve more attention?

the middle. Excellent cast Excellent writing was very heart warming. Very comfortable Television.

I’m so surprised that currently only Freeform is the only station that airs the reruns. (Daytime only). I can’t believe Viacom channels nick@niTe Or TVLAND haven’t snagged this show up for nitetime airrings. Or even my local channels.

1. Corner Gas- while this was popular in Canada, most Americans wouldn't know about it. And Corner Gas hasn't been seen on US TV since WGN dropped it over a decade ago.
2. Grand Slam- GSN's tournament of game show champions that was cancelled after one season, easily their best original
3. DAG- kicked off the 2000s decade airing after Frasier. It is the best one season comedy ever made, but not likely to ever be released on DVD or repeat anywhere.
4. Without a Trace- crime drama about missing persons unit of the FBI. The original cast of 5 was excellent, but Roselyn Sanchez addition was not needed.
5. The Middle- while this had a long run, always lived in the shadow of far inferior Modern Family, which got the Emmy attention and higher ratings The Middle should of had. And now Modern Family gets to outlast The Middle by at least one season.

Not even. The show was never overshadowed by Modern Family. People more or less just saw it as a ripoff of Malcolm in the Middle.

Hardly. The only thing those two shows have in common is both having middle in the name. Malcolm in the Middle is a mediocre show at best, The Middle is 100 times better. And yes, The Middle was overshadowed by Modern Family. They were two of the four new comedies that premiered fall 2009 on ABC Wednesdays, where they have had a 4 comedy block ever since then. Hank, The Middle's first lead-in, was quickly cancelled after 5 episodes. Cougar Town lasted a few seasons on ABC and moved to cable after ABC cancelled it. After the first season, The Middle moved to the leadoff slot and Modern Family stayed at 9:00. They were the anchors of the night for five straight seasons. But Modern Family hogged all the Emmys and The Middle got nothing, plus Modern got a lot higher ratings that should have been reversed. Then with The Middle ending after season 9, it is done from new episodes while Modern is the show that won't die. Plus Modern is still around in local syndication, while The Middle has prematurely disappeared (at least from my locals, and I live in Indiana). Those two shows premiered a week apart but a lot more press went to Modern Family, hence The Middle living in its shadow.

Sports Night, it was a good show during the late 1990s.

Not really. Look, I don't love The Middle nor do I hate it. I think it's an okay show, but it was nothing great or well written. It was just... okay. The show really was like Malcolm in the Middle, which was one of the best shows of the 2000s. Frankie and Mike were basically Lois and Hal, Sue was an even more socially awkward version of Malcolm, Axl was just Reese and Brick was Dewey, but dumbed down. The whole reason Modern Family is successful is because honestly, it's a more interesting and entertaining show. If The Middle was truly overshadowed, they wouldn't have even bothered giving it a proper final season or even hyping up the final season and series finale. You should be happy it even got a proper ending and managed to make it to 9 seasons.

Definitely agreed that The Middle was underrated. There are some excellent episodes, and it’s funny, with heart. And how Eden Sher was overlooked by the Emmys is beyond me.

I completely disagree with you and agree with catsrule. The Middle is a highly underrated show and is quite superior to Modern Family. Much funnier and more interesting and relatable characters all the way around.
