Default The script for "Gossip", episode 2-09 - Discussion

Now that the cat is out of the bag, I thought we could use this thread* to discuss "Gossip", the episode, and the script (and of course the differences, as there are quite a few). If you don't see the script, it's available in "The Group". I figured we could post all episode scripts in there, as they will otherwise become lost in the discussions and silliness in the main board threads (not that I have a problem with silliness, just would prefer some order for something as cool as the original shooting scripts).

As I mentioned in "The Group", I'm pretty sure this was Felice's copy, due to the notations for her character in the script.

Here are some of the differences I noted from the beginning:

At the very beginning, Blair's line is extended in the episode, which isn't in the script: after she says she can't wait to get back to Manhattan, she adds "...especially Bloomingdale's.'

Then Tootie's line, "I'll even give you Boardwalk" is cut, and then Blair's line "No I can't" is also cut.

Blair's lines about New York and the Big Apple are cut, and then a whole short segment with a trunk (with Mrs. G, Jo, and Blair) is all cut as well.

Mr's G's line is modified to "Well, I will, in a minute, Tootie"; shortly after that, her line is modified to "No kidding, a toup."

As the girls exit, Blair says "Have you seen my new blouse?" and "I'll try it on for you," and Jo ad-libs... something.

Then Mrs. G's line about Tootie feeling left out is cut, as is Mrs. G's and Howard's discussion of Howard's height.

Then Mrs. G's comments about the eye doctor are completely re-written. In the script, she calls the eye doctor a hunk, and Howard doesn't object. This part of the scene is very different, and it's a good thing it was re-written because otherwise that scene in a later episode where Mrs. G talks about her and Howard dating would have made no sense: he's only seen four times, and is presumably dating Mrs. G around the time this episode was shot.

... To Be Continued...

Feel free to add your own observations!

No other observations? I thought this board would be filled with comments. I figured once we were through commenting here, we could talk about the other scripts.

Well, to be fair, it is a big document! lol...an entire script...which is awesome, but does take some dedication to go through. Even I haven't gotten all the way through it yet, and this has Howard and 6 out of 7 original girls in it!

Well, true. I guess I should just be more patient.

Just wait until we get to some of the longer scripts!

Oh, two-parters, sure, but I'm like, "if anything, future scripts would be less time on camera for people to talk, not more", lol.

Also, I still haven't read the entire article you posted about the upcoming re-tooled season 2---and that's just one small page!

I'm gonna wait until I can print the script out to really comb through it. Like with TNGP2, I much prefer reading a tangible script in my hands instead of scrolling through it electronically on a computer screen.

It's so "authentic" to read through the pages in your hands.

Do you have the script for The Facts of Life Down Under movie? There's a scene in there that does not make any sense at all. Right before the first chase scene, Jo tries calling Natalie and Tootie's hotel room but there's no answer. Blair says they have to show up with the case if they have it or Andy will. I don't understand why Andy would have the case when it is in Natalie's bag. I was hoping the DVD release of it uncut would explain that scene but it didn't. Plus there's a blooper in the movie I didn't catch until a few days ago during a rewatch. When the speaker announces Natalie for her speech at the end, she refers to Natalie as a 1984 honors graduate. Natalie graduated Eastland in 1985. I can't believe they didn't catch that error when filming. I can't believe I didn't catch that after watching that movie soooooo many times. And here I call myself a die-hard fan
