I have both seasons of Banacek on DVD, they are the original releases, the ones with the TV Guide logo on them. I've been watching these lately and the shows look to me like they might be edited in a few places but I'm not sure.
The shows run about 72 minutes each on the DVD's, so I wonder if these might have originally run about 75 minutes when first seen on NBC. Same thing with the pilot movie, it runs about 96 minutes on the DVD, maybe the original run time is about 100 minutes. I'm not an expert on Banacek so maybe someone who has better knowledge of the show can post and confirm if the DVD's are edited or not. Right now I can only go on suspicion, and I suspect that the DVD's aren't the original full version Banacek's seen on NBC in the 1970's. |

OK I found some information. I went on Amazon and checked consumer reviews for these Banacek DVD's with the TV Guide logo, and there is a reviewer who posted and mentioned two episodes having edits, from the reviewers description it sounds like little snippets of dialog were edited out. I imagine all the episodes have this same problem, it isn't just the two that the reviewer mentioned. This is a shame because otherwise the episodes look and sound great, video is sharp and audio is crisp.
So my suspicion seems to be confirmed, the episodes have these sneaky little edits. I'm not surprised to find this out because as I've been watching these I've noticed occasional places in the episodes where things just don't look right. |
