Default Teenage Molly Ringwald appears on a sitcom again 39 years later!

WOW!

Tonight I was watching the season premiere of the only current sitcom I watch, The Goldbergs, and this season's premiere episode was entitled Sixteen Candles---so of course my Molly alert was on! lol

And sure enough, the main character, the youngest child and younger boy of the family, Adam, finds his family forgetting his birthday. So he decides to "relive Sixteen Candles" by throwing the "most awesome rager ever", lol. Needless to say, it doesn't turn out quite how he expects.

And then at the end he re-enacts the set-up of the last scene to finish "living out" the movie.

So, at the beginning, they show Adam watching the movie, and they play a couple of clips of Molly Ringwald speaking! They even showed her saying, "I can't believe it. They [BLEEP] forgot my birthday!" lol

WOW, this was SO COOL to see "teen queen" Molly Ringwald on a network sitcom again 39 years after she was attending Eastland on NBC! And it's so cool to think that, if there are kids and teens and young adults out there watching this show, that's a percentage of a whole new generation of folks who could be introduced to "Molly Ringwald" and "SC" thanks to Google and YouTube! How cool!!

Nice!

Thanks so much for the summary and the screenshots!

Molly was so much a part of the 1980s. I imagine she will always be.

My pleasure to share!

Oh, and for anyone who's unaware, The Goldbergs is about a dysfunctional (yet loving) family in the 1980s, told from the adult viewpoint of the youngest member of the family. Think The Wonder Years set in the glorious '80s!

Oh yeah, and one episode a few years ago was even entitled The Facts of Life and featured the theme song playing on a TV in the Goldbergs' house!!

And I just adore Molly in that hat---what a "like, totally righteous" '80s look for her!

P.S. I also appreciate that they show a boy re-enacting a girl's moments (the "they forgot my birthday" moment, the cake/table-sitting at the end, etc.). It doesn't make it seem as weird if we guys here wanna re-enact Facts of Life moments of our girls! (put your dukes up Retro, don't be callin' my braids no pigtails! )

Sounds like there's a FOL fan or two in the writing crew!

Those girls and that show and that era were a part of what made me who I am today. I'm going to relive whatever part I want, questioning looks be damned! But don't say I'm built like a school bus, '80s!

Yup...and what's really fun is that at the end of every episode, they show actual clips from Adam F. Goldberg's (the creator) personal VHS collection of his home family movies, of clips that inspired each episode! Fun!

The Goldbergs is a great show! There's actually an episode in season 2 where the parents were going to renew their vows and the dad uses the words to the theme song from "Family Ties". Eventually the mom figures it out and as pay back she makes her vows "You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the facts of life. THE FACTS OF ******* LIFE!!!!!!"

Hahahaha, yes! I haven't seen that one in a long time, though I did buy the first 3 seasons on DVD. I won't buy anymore though, because it really bugs me that the writers insist on being like so many people today and overusing or outright misusing "the l word" in now EVERY. SINGLE. EPISODE. And sometimes 3 or 4 times!

I am eternally grateful the sitcoms I grew up with never did that.

(hint: it rhymes with "miterally")

You mean they're literally misusing the word every five minutes?

As I would say to those people,

They're "actually" misusing! They're "honestly" misusing! They're "frankly" misusing!

Or, ya know what? Even:

"They're misusing!"

lol

(but that does sadden and tick me off about today's society)

I don't watch this show normally but I do remember that ep. Made me laugh seeing that they were watching Sixteen Candles!

Molly got a mention again on "The Goldbergs"! Last night Adam glowingly referred to her as "America's Angsty Ginger Princess"!

This is, like, 4 or 5 times she's "made it" on the show! Go Molly!

Molly on "The Goldbergs" again!

This week's episode featured a college female a capella group that called themselves "The Molly Singwalds"!
