Exclamation Finally Found!! The Private Eyes (1980) w/extra scene

Lost: one network version of a motion picture. Wanted very badly. Substantial reward offered for finding it.

Now, this is serious! The 80's tv version had extra scenes to pad the time out. Not much, but some extra jokes and one or two scenes were different:

A scene at dinner (Don't tell him they're "canned" peas)
Justin confronted about knives
Phyllis tied to the stairs
pigeons murdered (painted black)

There may be others. Anyone seen any more?

Do you have this on Dvd-r? VHS one-jillionth generation dub? Mega or Dropbox? What's easiest for trading? Thumb drive?

If you have it on VHS and can't transfer it, I can with great results (provided the source is good) and all shipping and recorded media on me.

No, really. And I have the home video version on Laserdisc, CED, VHS, Beta, DVD and BluRay and I still want the one from TV. It's like that, folks. I've done quite a few deals on this board and had superb experiences all round.

My trade list is pedestrian at at best, but if you like the Stooges(no marathons though!), Gilligan, Jackie Gleason (Still can't find "Incredible World of Ed Norton", sorry Frank and others! ), Whose Line, Gunsmoke or other such, you'd be in luck!

Still looking, btw. Also wondering about The Prizefighter, their other film. When it was shown as a network movie, did it have extra stuff, too?

Hmmm....

Still on the hunt for this, and looking internationally since, perhaps, the footage may exist for foreign tv/release markets.

I could probably get this somehow, but I'm not into anything you listed.

Took this search to Ioffer, too, in case anyone might be interested. Think I might try to track down the Rodney Dangerfield movie called Easy Money, as well. Seems like there is a version or two of that one that didn’t make it to home video..

Well it might not be the network version but I got a 16mm print of this feature on the way for the cost of shipping. Looking forward to a screening while still on the lookout for the deleted scenes.

Would you believe I'm still looking for this? I did get to screen my 16mm print and it was great to see on the little/big screen again after all these years. No difference from the current retail versions except for a nifty New World logo at the head. No animation there, just a still image. Don't think I've seen that since the HBO days.

I had a more difficult time getting hold of the Evil Dead Treasures 1 and 2 discs that had the abridged workprint of EDII.

One bit that no one seems to mention when describing the added scenes is one of the pigeons burning up like a falling star. He's tossed out the window and both Tart and Winship are in awe, "Look at 'im go!" and then.. quick shot of an arc of flames in the sky and, after, the flash of light reflected on the detectives in a pov window shot.

My brother says he remembers a joke about the crate full of murdered pigeons and a rhyming note in the cage, but I don't remember seeing that. I think the note would be quite memorable.

When we saw this as a second run in the theater in 1981 (dollar theater for you youngsters ) it did have the extra scenes which we looked for on video and, of course, they weren't there. So when this would come on tv (HBO or whatever) we'd always wonder if it was the "cheap-and-cut-up" version or the one with all the dead pigeons.

Still looking. Still offering a reward to anyone who can deliver.

I have located a Castellano dubbed version from international film sales with an odd runtime of some 101 minutes. Maybe there's something there? We'll see.

I did notice a deleted scene in the trailer.. the Shadow's shadow carrying a large knife. Don't recall that in the theatrical version.

2 quick things, for those curious and also looking for the extra stuff--

The Spanish print is the same as the US theatrical edition, minus the New World logo (spliced out? There is a jump) and plus a burn-in Spanish title "Detectives Casi Privados" in the opening animation.

The Spanish dvd is the same full-frame transfer as the US edition, with Spanish dubbing.

Now, I wonder what service provided the transfer for NBC's primetime airing in 1984, and where the source elements might have been shipped? Anyone "in the know" as far as video production services in LA or New York? Might be time to shift to another forum for more info..

..the search continues..
