Wow it’s so apparent in season 5 that they never let him grow up. In Beaver, the Bunny and Beaver’s Electric Trains Beaver acted just like a 6 year old. Sorry to all the 6 year olds. I know you don’t like to part with some childhood toy or possession but Beaver acted just like a small child fighting with Wally over the trains.

Interestingly when Beaver was much much younger he did something far more mature and selfless when he gave the sick kid his old Teddy bear.
Beaver The Bunny is just an embarrassing episode to watch, I know I've said it before but everything was so stupidly contrived to get Beaver in public in the bunny suit from having to change into costume at home to Beaver having to hoof it. |

Correct! There was no need for Beaver or his friends to have to lug those costumes back home after their rehearsal. They show him leaving for school with the box then back home. Just leave the costume at school to put on before the play. As you say so contrived how they make sure Beaver is caught on the streets in that bunny suit.
Did you notice Lumpy leaves his car right where he blows the tire. Never even pushes it off the road. Where’s the cop? June should have continued to call Beaver’s friends for a ride and not rely on Lumpy’s old heap. Ward is always home early but that night he’s conveniently late. Also that quick scene at the table with Ward eating supper and June dressed to the nines is always edited out. Ward says if they sit quietly not one will know Beaver belongs to them. |

It seems to me that that's one of the reasons it's so funny; a big kid like Beaver having to wear a bunny suit in a school play, like a younger kid. And, this was another Season 5 episode Eddie wasn't in; if he was he would been right in there with the wisecracks even more than Lumpy. |

Twelve year olds are really at the awkward age, and torn between being a little kid vs. being more mature. But having a school program where sixth graders dress up as animals? Somebody should have complained to the school board, or Mrs. Rayburn!
I know we've talked in another thread that Lumpy had some of the funniest lines in the whole episode, when he picked up Beaver and Wally. As far as the trains episode, I can see two kids that age getting into playing with trains. I can't see a kid going off the deep end, and locking himself in the bathroom when he finds out they were given away. |
