I'm reaching the point where i'm going to begin buying all the dvd's of favorite shows playing on Antenna TV and Get TV channels just so I never ever have to watch their commercials again!
I've noticed the addition of more commercial breaks recently and you can clearly tell because episode scenes are being abruptly cut in the middle of dialogue to accommodate yet another break. The last straw for me are those insufferable, disgusting Plexiderm commercials that show extreme close ups of ugly old people's eye bags. And to make matters worse, that damn commercial is about 10 minutes long. Eye bags for 10 minutes. Gross! I change the channel immediately when it comes on to watch anything else...and 5 minutes later I switch back and see the close up of old man eye bags STILL PLAYING!! ![]() I bought the first few seasons of All in the Family on dvd a couple weeks ago and began playing them instead of watching the TV and oh what a difference!! Full episodes, no breaks, unedited and no ugly eye bags!! It's a whole new world for me now. So i'm making a list of all the shows I want on dvd and will never ever have to look at a close up of aging wrinkly eye bags again....unless i'm looking in the mirror lol. Am I the only one getting extremely fed up with all these commercials?! It's almost to the point where there's more commercials than show! |

I started watching DVDs a long time ago. Basically, the only 2 shows I watch on "TV" are "Wheel of Fortune" and "Days of our Lives".

Other favorites like ODAAT at 80 bucks and Patty Duke Show at 25 bucks a season (odd for such an old show) will have to wait, but i'm determined to replace all my favorite tv channel shows with dvd to avoid these increasingly annoying commercials. What ever happened to the fun commercials of yesteryear for stuff like coffee, cereals, and soaps? Wouldn't it be so nice if classic commercials aired on these channels over eye bags, cleft lipped children and abused animals every 5 minutes?! Off topic....I was completely addicted to Days from 1996 to 2004 but haven't watched since. After Marlena was a serial killer and they all went to New Salem, I tuned out it got too crazy for me lol. |

I've also wondered what happened to the commercials you'd see on the Soaps...all the staples you get at the market. Now all you get are these ads I've complained about on other threads. The ones that really irritate me are all the ones begging for money...so they can buy more ads begging for more money. I normally don't mind Alex Trebek...except on that insurance commercial he's been on forever.
A lot of the cutting people off in the middle of sentences, at least here locally, are local ads that aren't timed correctly to the network break. It happens all the time on Antenna TV...I've complained to the local channel about it, but they don't care. Thank goodness for DVDs and the mute button! Off topic: I'm a guy and I was addicted to Another World for years. Taped it every day. |

I won't doubt that real soon, shows will be one minute and commercials will be 29 minutes!

But i'd much rather see commercials like we used to see in the 70's and 80's over what's on now...and that Alex Trebek commercial shilling his "3 P's" insurance is annoying. And don't get me started on that Cash Net commercial with that bumbling idiot in the super hero costume. It comes on every single break! As for Another World, i'm also a guy and started watching at age 15 in 1985 when they started the Marley/Vicky storyline. I completely fell in love with bad Vicky and stayed with the show straight till it's end in '99. I still go to You Tube and relive old episodes from the 80's & 90's. (there's a whole slew of them there). It's a shame they cancelled it for that ridiculous "Passions" that came next. I was so happy when I saw they axed that too. |

Having gone totally DVD for almost 12 years all I can say is it's worth every penny. Once you go commercial-free you'll never want to return to your old ways. It's nice to know you'll never be insulted by whatever product will be tossed at you next, and no having to wait for the program to resume. Not cuts in the program as well. If you are considering turning to DVD all I can say is GO FOR IT!

I'm not usually bothered by the commercials on Antenna TV, but one that I dislike is the Life Alert ad where the old people fall and say "Help I've fallen and can't get up!" Damn I hate that commercial.
Years ago commercials used to be fun but not anymore, those days are over. Last year from GetTV I recorded the Peter Loves Mary sitcom episodes, also recorded The Girl With Something Extra sitcom episodes. GetTV ran these in 40 minute time slots, which meant 25 minutes for the episodes and 15 minutes of commercials. While I'm not fond of 15 minutes of commercials, I assume the 40 minute time slot allowed them to air the shows uncut so I didn't complain. I've been recording The Joey Bishop Show episodes from Antenna TV, a year ago or so when I first started recording, the episodes had 7 minutes of commercials, but now lately I've noticed the episodes have 8 minutes of commercials. There hasn't been any additional edits to the episodes, but I think what Antenna is doing is time compressing/speeding them up so they can squeeze in another minute of commercial time.

Laff shows way too many of these, but I do like the ones made by the network though.

Something tells me I better get it done soon because studios will catch on and raise prices of everything. Right now a lot of classic complete series out there are dirt cheap. |

Remember the Purina "Chow chow chow" commercial? The Toys R Us "I don't wanna grow up" commercial? The Enjoli commercial "I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan" and that shampoo commercial "I'm gonna wash that grey right outta my hair" lol. All fun, catchy tunes to sing along to. These need to come back!!

This product reminds me of that commercial from the 70's for a shampoo where the woman tells the viewer to tell a friend about it and "so on and so on and so on"...and blocks of different women heads appear on the screen...I have to go and Google that one now.... I found it quick...It was Faberge Shampoo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgDxWNV4wWY |

Another possibility is to watch your favourite shows online which I love to do. Find some good free streaming sites which have complete seasons of each show you want to see and you can binge watch them all you want at any time.
