Whoa! I just made a discovery in "Jo's Cousin": The show opens with a scene in the lounge, but part of it hit the cutting room floor! You can tell because when the end credits start, they begin rolling over the missing part of that scene, where Mrs. Garrett and the girls are sending her off with their farewells. In the finished show, Jo enters the lounge while the other four are already seated; no one gets up.
In the episode, the last moment we see is what you see in the first screenshot below. It then immediately cuts to the garage, as I've indicated, and later in that garage scene Jo turns up. So they clearly shot a longer lounge scene and then cut it down. Yet, like "Bus Stop" (and possibly others??), missing footage remains in the closing credits for all eternity! I've included a couple of screenshots further down of the footage that plays from the cut material as the closing credits begin to roll. - |

Wow! Another good find!
I suspect these missing scenes, however brief, are more common than most people would believe. The pressures of producing an episode every week, for 13 to 24 episodes a year, is bound to lead to editing mistakes and suchlike (and I do consider footage appearing in the credits but not in the episode a mistake). I recall a late-season episode opening credit with Blair in a black dress. That scene, or most of it, also ended up on the cutting room floor. |

Yeah, it must have been common practice for footage to the cutting room floor when editing television shows for broadcast, but to leave "lost" footage in a credits sequence is a boo-boo, lol. It can be frustrating, but very interesting!
There's also the late season opening where someone here pointed out to us a moment from "Where's Poppa?" that's in the opening sequence, but cut from the episode. |
