What do the people want? Of course for CBS to release My 3 Sons on DVD, all seasons and UNCUT. Does CBS listen, do they do what folks would like? Uh, no, not exactly. They JUST REMOVED ALL My 3 Sons from You Tube!!! They're ALL gone. Now just yesterday when I wanted to check on Katie's Career, I went to you tube and the episode was there just yesterday. It's been a Thursday massacre of all episodes off of you tube. Whoever did originally post those episodes did every fan a favor. I have never mentioned the fact that you could find these episodes on You Tube because I didn't want those ever lovin' CBS censors to realize all episodes were up for viewing on You Tube. Well, they finally woke up and ruined every fan's chance to see these episodes whenever they want.
Once again, thank goodness for bootlegs. A sad day for those who still haven't realized to record these shows when they are available. Let this be a lesson, record these shows when you can, because it's guaranteed they WILL disappear for perhaps decades as My 3 Sons has done before. My real question is, if these companies that own the shows have no intention of releasing them on DVD for people to gladly buy, then why are they so intent on removing people's opportunity to see these shows? I could understand if they were releasing these on DVD and didn't want people to get them for free off you tube, but when they have zero desire to release them themselves why simply ruin people's chance to watch? |

They do absolutely NOTHING with their catalog of older shows such as this, no DVD sets, no remastering beyond season 2. But they go to the trouble of claiming their copyright, and having Youtube yank the episodes. The only good thing you might say about this is that someone there has actually noticed the show ("Hey, what's this show? Anyone ever, like, heard of it?" said the millennial CBS guy to the millennial CBS girl. "Well, we hear it's like out there on Youtube. Let's like make sure to claim our copyright on it and have it removed.")
All they really do with M3S is collect revenue from syndication. If they have no interest in doing DVDs, they should contract it out to Shout or Time Life to reap their back catalog. |

Ah-ha !!! Looks like they really cleaned house, this time.
A few months ago, they removed the episodes originally posted by whomever put them up there [this time], minus Season 7 which was never posted along with the other seasons. However, other people saved the episodes and re-posted them with longer running times, like 25-30-40 minutes, or so. To disguise? Perhaps. Last night I went looking for "The Lostling" and there were still lots of episodes on there, but many were listed under incorrect titles and there were several duplicate titles, but none of the titles matched the episodes. Perhaps another attempt to disguise? But, now those are also gone. They come and go. This go round, I downloaded them and also put them on a USB. Call me crazy, but you are correct about bootlegs being the only way to get this show. I have several different DVD sets from various airings and the official releases [I don't mind the music, to get uncut episodes.] Most valued are the Season 6-10 uncut episodes. The Nick at Nite uncut episodes still elude me, but I just found someone claiming to have them. We shall see.... One can never have too many "My Three Sons" episodes archived on different types of media, can one? |

I figure the cost of blank VHS tapes is the reason they are hard to come by. My latest lead may not pan out, but it as close as I have ever gotten. |

Yes, all that seems to be "out there" are Odyssey/Hallmark.
I could kick myself for not rolling the VCR--I remember seeing those episodes on Nick at Nite. I just didn't know how rare they were, at the time. |

If they're doing the 'we're not going to release it AND won't let you watch it deal, could it be that they may be thinking of redoing it and don't want viewers to make easy comparisons to the original?

I'd like to think so. I read someplace that they're moving on The Beverly Hillbilles again. Maybe they hired some people and decided to do something for a change.

Reportedly Beverly Hillbillies Season 5 is scheduled for release later this year.
Regarding older My Three Sons airings: I taped Season 1 of M3S from Nick at Nite on VHS back in the 1990s, but the tape had degraded the last time I tried to view it. That was several years ago. Once the official releases had come out, I was no longer concerned -- until I learned of the music problems. |

I guess it only makes sense that the people who own the rights to these shows don't want to give their product away for free, it was only a matter of time before they caught up with the folks posting them for free on Youtube. It really doesn't make sense with a show like M3S, though, where the full series isn't available on DVD. You would think that they would want to leave them on there to attract attention and have new people discover them before releasing the DVDs, it could only help sales. KOQ and DW are both available in their entirety on DVD so I can see it a little more there, why buy the cow when there's milk in the fridge? |

CBS cannot knowingly leave those M3S episodes up on YouTube. Let’s say that CBS leaves them. And later on, someone else takes M3S and starts showing them on a higher profile station or website without CBS permission. If CBS sues, their damages will be more limited than if they weren’t protecting their copyright all along.

Perhaps more M3S DVD's are being planned, so request was made to You Tube to pull all episodes posted. I was thinking about buying seasons 1 and 2 when those DVD's came out, but when I found out about the music alterations/changes I said hell no I'm not buying this garbage. This music rights stuff is a pile of BS, a bunch of legal nonsense and it has ruined some DVD releases. The DVD's of Gomer Pyle USMC were ruined because many of the scenes containing music/songs were trimmed out of the episodes.
![]() This isn't a TV show, but I noticed recently that the Bowery Boys movies have been pulled from You Tube also, someone had been posting them. Warner's released all Bowery Boys movies on DVD a few years ago, but they did a stupid thing by putting the later titles from the series on the DVD's in widescreen format. It's true that the later films in the series were filmed in widescreen, which is fine for theater viewing, but for home DVD purposes fullscreen is so much better. I hate seeing that widescreen crap with the black bars at top and bottom of the picture, it looks terrible. So with the Bowery Boys DVD's from Warner's, I believe the films are fullscreen all the way up thru "Loose In London". Then starting with "Clipped Wings", it switches to widescreen for the remainder of the series. Because of this, I avoided the Bowery Boys DVD's from Warner's and did not purchase them. I have my own Bowery Boys collection, movies were recorded from TV, all are complete and all are fullscreen including the later ones.

It sounds like CBS and Sony made a large complaint to Youtube on copyright violation. I think you can post a few scenes, but not whole episodes. They probably spell it out in their terms of use that everyone diligently reads.

stevea could be correct, maybe someone at CBS or Sony got a bug up their ass and whined to You Tube to remove all the My Three Sons episodes. I'm actually not a huge fan of the show but probably would have bought the first two seasons DVD's if the scoundrels at CBS DVD hadn't messed with the music.

retrotvfan just reminded me of what I just saw earlier today. I was watching Columbia's official release of the 3 Stooges short from 1954 "Fling In The Ring" with my favorite, Shemp. At least twice during the short Shemp's upside down but you can't see his head, even when it's called for for the joke to pay off, for instance he lands upside down in a bucket of water and you hear him making bubble noises in the bucket BUT all you see is his chest to his feet on top, head's cut off by the wide screened 3 Stooge episode. Now to be clear, I love wide screen when it's genuinely used, for instance when a TV square picture takes a genuine widescreen movie and cuts off the sides to fit it in a squareish old style TV then I really want it in widescreen. But sometimes, as here with the Stooges, I believe I've always seen the bucket containing Shemp's head in old TV broadcasts of the Stooges, I don't ever remember his head cut off. I think what's happened is they've taken an original 4x3 picture frame Stooge and turned it into a ipso facto widescreen, doing just the opposite of what TV used to do to widescreen movies, only now they actually cut off the top and the bottom of the 4x3 picture to stretch it out into a widescreen image for DVD. I hate this as much as I hated when they'd cut off the sides of a real widescreen picture to fit it onto a 4x3 screen of old.
