Rarely does M3S produce a LOL, IMO. But this episode today, where Barbara takes on a whole new persona when she's competing or watching a competition. Well, Beverly Garland was great...she deserved an Emmy for that performance.
For those who didn't see it, Barbara...normally pretty reserved and calm, went ballistic during a game of charades. Screaming, yelling...it was really funny! Then she tries to keep her cool when Steve bowls...but finally she csn't keep it in, and yells...causing Steve to throw a gutter ball. |

![]() This was a funny episode seeing Barbara act so abandoned, got that word from Mr. Griffin in Hazel when his long johns showed under his socks. Beverly Garland was quite the versatile actress, 2 of my favorite Beverly movies, NOT OF THIS EARTH where she meets and deals with a Martian invasion, see the great poster: ![]() https://wallscover.com/image-post/94...rth-1.jpg.html & then there's GUNSLINGER a western starring her as the main character, strapping on guns and becoming marshall to pursue the bad guys that killed her husband. She fast guns them down herself! ![]()

I liked that episode too. Barbara acting out charades was so funny. She really got into it, and hardly gave anyone a chance to guess the answer.

Yes, but not to be dismissed were the reactions of her husband Steve and Sylvia Anderson neither who didn't say a word against Barbara nor dissed her in any way during the game- yet were openly shocked at seeing this previously hidden aspect of her character emerge. Yeah, they could have made them just being wet blankets with no redeeming features and/or had them rant at Barbara but whoever wrote this shrewdly had the audience be sympathetic to BOTH sides here and got good laughs from each side as well.

Yes, Steve was giving her subtle signs but she wasn't having any of it.
This was written by their top guy, George Tibbles. |

Beverly was "on" as soon as charades was proposed - she did a really good job of showing how "into it" Barbara's character would be.
I can't get over how GREAT Beverly Garland looked in these Season 12 episodes. I don't mind the rather dowdy ponytail of Season 10 or the more matronly hairstyle of Season 11, but the S12 look is gorgeous. If only she retained the higher hemlines of S11.

The scripting of the charades scenes---I don't know. They may have told them to go at it w/Beverly trying to guess it for real--in overdrive. Otherwise, the script would be miles long.
In other words, that part may have been improvisation. You don't often see scenes like those 2. |

I think that Barbara just really let her hair down, literally and figuratively, in season 12. Her character seemed to have a lot more importance and command of the household in season 12 while, conversely, Steve seemed to age about 5-10 years and just kind of exist in the background, as opposed to the earlier seasons.
And yes, she looked gorgeous, so much better than the weird school marm pony tail from season 10 and the grandma look from season 11. I liked the darker hair color too, it was so much more natural looking on her and it took years off of her appearance. |

Yep - Barbara became a real hottie in season 12. Too hot for that old fuddy-duddy Steve. She should have dumped him and run off to Peru with Robbie.
