Question Carl Harper.....

Does anybody know who Carl Harper was on the show? I know he was Thelma's husband and all. But would anybody know what he looked like? There was an episode though that pitted Mama talking to Iola about her younger days when Mama was pregnant. I think she was talking to Iola about this. I could be wrong though. But there were a lot of flashbacks in this episode when Mama was young and pregnant. Well anyway, she was in labor and expected her husband Carl to drive her to the hospital and the only thing he was worried about was who was gonna win the horse races that was in the paper he was looking at....LMAO In this flashback though, the "so-called" Carl Harper just looked exactly like Vinton Harper. If anybody has ever seen that episode, does Carl Harper actually look like Vint? There is always a lot of talk about him, but he is never revealed on who he really is or what he looks like. Would anybody know.

I do remember an episode where Carl was "there," but not in camera view. He was in the bathroom in the back, and Mama had just had a new freezer delivered. That's all I remember...

Smile Carl Harper

In the last episode of Mama's Family, Mama had a flashback to when she was having a baby. Carl was a lazy slob when Mama was describing him to Iola. And now the moment you have been waiting for, Carl Harper was played by Ken Barry (Vinton Harper) in this episode.

Yes, Carl Harper was played by Ken Berry in the flashback episode when Mama was talking to Iola about when she was pregnant. But in another earlier flashback episode where Mama was remembering her 30th birthday and Carl was heard but not seen because he was in the bathroom, he sounded alot like Eunice's husband Ed. So I believe Harvey Kormen played him in that episode(in voice anyway). If that's true then maybe you can take Ken Berry's face and morph it with Harvey Kormen's and do the same thing with their voices. Then you'd know what the real Carl Harper looks and sounds like.
Just a thought.

Default Now that you mention it...

....I'm pretty sure it was Harvey Korman doing the voice of Carl Harper in the bathroom, on Mama's 30th birthday episode.

I always thought it was a bit of a letdown, having Ken Berry play Carl in that final episode. All these years, we had only heard references and stories of Carl, and only heard his voice in the one NBC flashback episode. I kind of liked it that way...since we never saw Carl, it left more to the imagination. It would've been better I think, if they could've somehow worked the final episode to not have to show Carl, as well.
