Default Angela Watson’s Strange Behavior Towards The End Of SBS

I must say, after listening to Christine’s podcast with Jarrett I’ve gotten hooked in to listening to past episodes. Staci Keanen did a few episodes. One thing that’s sad to find out is apparently Angela Watson had a major falling out with Christine. Christine described them as the closest of the kids for the first 5 seasons. But she started noticing a change in her during season 6. She was losing weight and had this older guy who they think was an agent showing up and lurking on the set the whole time. The strangest moment happened in the final season when Angela showed up to work very late wearing a blonde wig, blue contacts, and a sexy outfit. Christine said she was speaking in an odd high pitch voice saying she’s filming a movie. When questioned about it she would just reply “‪It’s a Disney film where I play a good girl by day and a bad girl by night‬”. The last day of taping Angela left immediately after curtain call and didn’t say bye to anyone. Christine tried to see her again but the only way she could was through some production Angela was doing where Angela tried to avoid seeing Christine but Christine’s boyfriend called her over. She was still acting odd and didn’t really give any explanation for why they aren’t in contact. Angela cut off her own family and refuses to see her parents or half sister. I know the story of her suing the parents but I’m starting to wonder if there’s more to the story than we know. It sounds like Angela’s parents were worried about her. Christine’s parents and them remained friends and would ask if Christine heard from Angela.

Wow! Where does Christine mention this?!

Episode 3 of her podcast is where it starts. She gives an update in episode 38.

After having listened to Episode 3 and Episode 38, as well as Episode 6 with Staci, I'm gobsmacked. It's very clear from what she says that Christine really was hurt by Angela distancing herself from the rest of the cast, and wants, or wanted, answers.

I really wonder now who Angela's creepy agent is/was, and what the deal is with that "studio" and their "projects". The fact that the studio seems to be interchangeable with the PR firm, and seems to have to have the same phone number, is weird. The whole thing feels scammy. Now I wonder if Angela's parents really stole her money.

Thanks for posting this! I hope Angela is well.

As Staci says, it seems like an abusive relationship where she was forced to cut ties with everyone in her life.

It does seem that way. I'd love to hear Angela's side, because otherwise we just have this... horrible impression.

True, we did get that letter from her publicist they read outloud but it would be nice to hear from her.

I don't think that letter helped her cause at all. It was nonsensical.

I wonder how things are going for her now. According to her IMDB page, she only did two more things in the acting field after Step By Step ended.

God bless you and Angela always!!!

She's been in plays, too, according to Christine. Which... that was weird, too. Avoiding them after the show?

They also talk about Angela for a while in episode 29 (40 minutes in). Staci said she was in the school room (a tiny trailer on set) with her for years and how they wouldn't hang out much outside of the show, but would talk all day long about their personal lives, deep discussions, etc. It was just the two of them and one tutor.

Angela's parents were apparently very strict and didn't want her to drive, go to parties or date. Christine is still very hurt, to the point where she's had trouble trusting women in her adult life. Their parents are still in touch with each other, but haven't had contact with Angela for over 16 years.

The girls had nicknames and inside jokes and would write letters to each other all the time, then out of nowhere, Angela changed and the letters became very formal, almost written by a publicist. Staci even wrote her saying it's as if she's completely transformed overnight, but again, the reply was formal, almost foreign.

Staci said she saw her at a SAG Award event a few years back, Angela waved and that was it.

Here's a local news interview with Angela from 2017. She's very involved with charity these days. She mentions her grandmother, her "TV mom Suzanne Somers" as well as Christina Applegate.

Thanks, Buffyboy; I appreciate the info, and even the pointer to the part in Episode 29 where Staci and Christine talk about Angela (saved me a lot of time searching the ep). It's clear they both feel the same way about Angela: they even mentioned how cult-like she seems now.

I can definitely see where Christine feels hurt. I hope eventually Angela will reunite with her former co-stars, and maybe explain what happened, from her perspective. Another form letter won't help.
