In the 90's CBS launched a sitcom called Payne starring John Larroquette as the owner of a hotel. Payne was the third American remake of the popular Britcom Fawlty Towers but even though Payne was a wonderful sitcom only nine episodes of Payne were made before CBS cancelled it. I remember when the advertisements for Payne came out Mom and I were curious to see how cool Payne would be and when Payne debuted Mom and I really liked it a lot

Payne also starred JoBeth Williams, Rick Batalla, along with Julie Benz, and despite having fairly positive reception, the show got quickly canceled.

Nine episodes were filmed, eight were aired. The show got blessing from John Cleese himself who agreed to take a recurring role as the antagonistic rival hotelier if the show was renewed.
