He looked so different as he got older ! I'd never think the lanky man on the show and the chubby comic were the same person !

Are you perhaps confusing Buddy Ebsen with Buddy Hackett? Two different guys.

I don't recall Buddy Ebsen ever being chubby. Do you have the link of the picture you are looking at?
