Can this show continue without Roseanne Barr? People and ABC are already considering rebooting the reboot in the form of a spin-off or a rebrand without the central character.
http://www.vulture.com/2018/06/abc-i...a-gilbert.html I think ABC should do the spin-off/rebrand with Sara Gilbert/Darlene at the helm, and focus on her kids, with Roseanne Barr out of the picture. Personally, I hope it happens. I think they could kill off the matriarch and explain that she had an opiate overdose the night before knee surgery or she dies from complications from her knee surgery. I mean, I'm not wishing death or misfortune on the character (they could have her go off the show in a more positive manner, whatever that may be), I just think the cast is strong enough to go on without her. Who agrees? The only issue I see is that Roseanne Barr was co-creator of Roseanne and could benefit financially from the spin-off or rebrand, so they'll have to find some kind of loophole so she doesn't. |

Whatever they do, I hope they don't pull a "Valerie's Family":
"Your grandma Roseanne is dead, kids, but here's Aunt Sandy Duncan!" I kid, of course, but I'd hate to see anything like that. And I doubt John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf would do it without Rosie: keep in mind that Matt Williams wanted to get rid of Roseanne during the first thirteen episodes, but they stood by her. Still, that was before the racist tweet, so who knows what will happen? I'm sad to see the show go, because there are very few working-class shows on the air, even in an era of 800 channels. And I was looking forward to exploring more with the Conner family, like what the heck happened to Andy and Jerry, would David come back, would the new show ever acknowledge the fact that Crystal was Dan's step-mom, what happened to Lonnie, Little Ed, Angela, and Ed Sr, whatever happened to Bonnie, etc, etc... |
