Default Did you guys know Desi Arnaz was on an episode in season 2?

He did OK I guess but nothing spectacular. It's clear without Lucy he would've gone nowhere in acting but would have stayed a band leader.

Yes, I knew! I saw that ep. Before! I think he was really good, very funny playing a womanizer! It's been a while since I've seen it, didn't he get folded up in Alice's sofa bed if I remember correctly?

I think Mr. Arnaz agreed to appear on "Alice" because of it's "I Love Lucy" connections.
The episode was directed by William Asher, who directed many "I Love Lucy" episodes, and also because it was produced by Bob Carroll Jr. and Madelyn Davis (two former writers of "I Love Lucy").
Maybe he did it as a favor to them, or maybe he just wanted to do the show.

He really was nothing special. Lucy was the star of that show.

Ouch! That's kinda harsh, but you're entitled to your opinion.
I think he was a creative genius who was underrated and unappreciated. Besides acting, he was an executive producer, director, musician, singer, business executive and so much more.
In fact, we might not have "I Love Lucy" reruns at all if he didn't insist on shooting on film instead of doing it live like most programs did at the time.

Arnaz was a great straight man to Lucy's antics, though he did show off his comic ability in the film The Long Long Trailer (watching him having to back the trailer into the driveway with everyone yelling at him was funnier than anything Lucy did in that film)

Yes he did but there was nothing spectacular about his acting. The only kind of funny thing was how he "I got some 'splaining to do" but other people who say things with an accent have been a LOT funnier. In one of the later seasons of the Jeffersons Carmen Sepada says some things in a Spanish accent that will have you burst out loud laughing! Things you could NOT say today due to political correctness!

Desi looked pretty lost without Lucy & he would not have made it big in acting without the launching pad of "I Love Lucy"!

Wow! Very interesting. So that probably 'splains why he was on Alice!

But even if they shot it live the studio would still have a copy of the show you know?

I'm not commenting on his other skills. I'm just saying as an actor he was a bust without Lucy.

Totally agree. There are literally hundreds of guest stars who could have done a better job. But remember the studio never wanted Arnaz in I Love Lucy. Lucy did!

I'm not really a big fan of this episode mainly because of Desi. He's so overly dramatic and he's basically playing himself....a sexist womanizer.
