TV ABBA To Reunite after 35 Years with NBC & BBC TV Special

ABBA To Reunite after 35 Years with NBC & BBC TV Special
by Peter White
April 27, 2018

Mamma Mia… ABBA is reuniting and the Swedish pop group has set a TV special to air on NBC in the U.S. and BBC in the UK.

The band, which formed in 1972 and broke up in 1982 after eight studio albums, will debut two new songs including 'I Still Have Faith In You', which will be released in December.

The band – Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – had previously reunited for a one-off private party in 2016.

The TV special will be produced by Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment and air in December.

The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence,” the members said. “We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and get into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience.

It resulted in two new songs and one of them, ‘I Still Have Faith In You,’ will be performed by our digital selves in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December.

Pop music legends, god bless them, great to see they're together again and recording some new music.

It makes me feel young and beautiful again, though I fear it may be a mistake.

ABBA is making a comeback? What a surprise because Mom and I are ABBA fans and I hope their concert special will be great. I hope the new song I Still Have Faith In You will be a successful and will be the answer to a new album next year

Did I read somewhere that they were not going to be together onstage but some kind of digital enhancement would occur whereby they are made to look much younger than they actually are? It's far better to grow old gracefully in my opinion..

I agree. And I will not be paying money to go see a hologram show.

However, if I were them, I'd do it. It's a way to go out there, look like they did in their youthful prime and make even more $$$.

One wonders how many millions they have been paid to depict a mere simulacrum of themselves onstage.

I'm mainly interested to hear what their new songs sound like. Hopefully the tunes will be good with strong melodies like the old ABBA songs. As long as the women can still carry a tune and haven't lost their voices, I imagine it should sound pretty good.

Now if they actually performed in tour they would be the biggest reunion ever.

I imagine that the new songs will have a modern sound but maybe also retain some of the classic ABBA sound. Will just have to wait and see. I'm not fond of the holograms idea either, but to me it's mostly irrelevant. I'm mainly interested to hear what this new music sounds like.
