Very cool hard rock LP from 1980 - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

The name of this band and LP is "Scram". Excellent music on this album, it's melodic hard rock with a touch of southern rock and blues.

Songwriting on the album is amazingly strong for an unknown band like this. The LP was issued on a private label, so it was a limited release, I'm guessing maybe 1,000 copies were printed. It looks like the album was re-issued on CD in 2009. The LP and CD aren't easy to find but a copy will pop up once in a while on ebay. I have the vinyl LP.

I recently discovered that two guys from the Scram band were previously in a group called Lodestar. I listened to the Lodestar album on You Tube but wasn't all that impressed with it, I think the Scram album is much much better. All nine songs on it are awesome, one of the best melodic hard rock albums I've heard. The 2nd song on the album, titled "Second Time Around", had massive hit song/chart topper written all over it.

Another cool, mostly unknown band was The Kind. They were a Chicago area band active in the early 1980's and they also composed and performed some pretty impressive melodic hard rock. At the time, The Kind were compared to Cheap Trick but in my opinion The Kind had better songs. It just goes to show that sometimes it's these lesser known bands that create the best music.

I've somewhat heard of them, I believe they made three albums but I'm not familiar with the music.

However, speaking of Dio, I love Rainbow's album titled "Long Live Rock N Roll". Another melodic rock masterpiece, aside from a couple stumbles along the way (LA Connection and The Shed tend to plod along) the album is very strong. Rainbow's best album in my opinion.

I went through some of my remaining albums and found these two (haven't listened to them in probably decades). I know I had that aforementioned Rainbow album, but it's either in another pile somewhere or disappeared over the years. Nowadays I just stream it anyways.

Yes, those albums in your photo are Elf's 2nd and 3rd albums. Soon after the 3rd album, Elf disbanded, then Dio and Blackmore teamed up and Rainbow was formed.

I sampled some Elf tunes on the internet, sounds like boogie rock with a touch of the blues tossed in. Interesting nowadays mostly as curiosity to hear what Dio's first band sounded like.

Yeah, like I said it's been a long time for me , but that sounds like a pretty good description. Definitely different from the Rainbow, Sabbath, and solo stuff that followed.

Well, I'll let you guys get back to your Scram talk

I believe the LP is analog, not digital. About 1984 or 85 is when it started becoming common for music to be produced digitally.

Jefferson starships 1079,1980 and 1981 records sounds like crap .. THIN ON THE RECORD (Well thinner)

Journeys last GOOD album was thier 1978 one "Infinity" all ones after that sound like thinner garbage and its sad.....

Nope... Albums started to be digitally mixed by some producers in the late 70s and its disgusting..........

It probably depends on the band/artist and the producer. Some digital stuff might have started showing up earlier but the music digital age didn't really start getting going until the middle 1980's. As far as the Scram LP is concerned, I believe it's analog. Regardless, the music on the album is awesome and the production is good. One of the best melodic hard rock albums I've ever heard.
