Default So Mike had two bosses? Mr. Phillips and Mr. Matthews?

In the early seasons he had Mr. Phillips as a boss, but then during the final few episodes, we hear the name "Mr. Matthews" in the 3rd last one and then we see him in the 2nd last episode.

So what happened to Mr. Phillips? He retired and Mr. Matthews took over? Mr. Matthews was old.

Was the plan to keep having Jim Backus back on the show had there been a season 6?

I have often wondered about the situation with the two bosses. I do not know what type of logic the writers were using.

Mr. Phillips was old, but so was Mr. Matthews.

One of the writers said that Mr Matthews was the president of the company, while Mr. Phillips was Mike’s direct manager.

That sounds like a logical explanation to me.

But Mr. Phillips had that big, awesome boat! As Mrs. Brady fondly referred to as "That broken down barnacle barge "!!

Mrs. Brady thought she was playing a game of "fooled once, shame on you. Fooled twice, shame on me"!

That was hilarious when Mr. Brady walked into the bedroom and Carol realized she really WAS talking to Mr. Phillips on the phone and NOT to Mike who she thought was fooling her ! One of the funniest scenes EVER on the Brady Bunch IMO!!
