My mother and I got a kick out of June and Ward sitting tightly together on the sofa waiting for Wally to enter the courtroom so they could deliver the verdict. So formal!! Then June said to make up for the unpopular decision that Wally nix the trip, they should do something nice for him. Ward said he’d be happier in his room sulking. This was a really badly written episode.
In the synopsis they said Wally is invited to a lakeside cottage for the weekend. cottage? With Scott’s parents’ money it’s probably a mansion on the lake. He invited about 6 guys. |

Of course, if W&J had lightened up a little, they could have said, Hey, we'll go along and chaperone if you'd like, otherwise, forget going.
One confusing thing was Lumpy putting in an appearance at the Cleavers' with Scott, as they're leaving, and Fred calls. Then Lumpy can't go. Huh? Wouldn't Fred have nixed it before Lumpy left home? (According to Wally in another episode, Fred is way more strict than Ward.) Another irritating thing is that stilted Wally and Beaver dialogue, as W&J are holding their Supreme Court hearing in the living room. Beaver makes some heavy observations about how things will go, depending on whether they come in to see you vs. you going to see them, for the momentous decision. Also, Wally repeats a line that they're in there, discussing/talking about it, now. I'd bet there was a slip-up there, that the director just let go. You're right, not a stellar episode. |

I don't blame Ward or June for not wanting Wally to go after being under the impression Scott's parents were going to be there. And even if Wally knew from the beginning and had told Ward and June, it still would be a big decision of letting your underage teen go and stay somewhere for the weekend without adults around. |

Good point. Scott and his family were new in town.
Scott (thinking Wally was still on the phone) calling Ward "your old man" didn't help matters, either. |

At first I thought that was a good idea about Ward and June going but realized they really had no authorization to be chaperones. Scott’s parents didn’t seem to care what Scott did as he tells Wally. Scott could have been a member of the Barons as he was wealthy and had a maid for a parent. Imagine if W&J told Wally they would come to the lake to chaperone? He would be humiliated. I like June wanting Wally to take his blue jacket to impress Scott’s parents.
Where was Eddie? Was he one of the 3 guys who backed out? Yeah Lumpy should not have had permission to go, after Ward called him up with his decision. Unless Lumpy was already on his way over when Ward called Fred. Fred was surprised Ward was letting him go. A lot was going on that morning. They had breakfast, Ward found out his parents weren’t going, they had to discuss whether Wally should go, June was dressed to the 9’s and then Scott shows up. Lumpy probably didn’t care he wanted the girls’ camp to be open. |

But who the 3 or 4 others were, was never mentioned. Twice Scott said they had all backed out. At the end Scott said, Maybe Ol' Ernie can go. I don't know who that is, unless I missed something, or MeTV edited something out. |

I guess we'll never know who the others were who almost went. I would venture to say that the guys would have behaved themselves especially with Wally along. They would have done some swimming, taken out his pop's boat, ate beans out of the can and probably never bought any beer like the Barons.
They wouldn't have to wear blue sports jackets, use linen napkins or eat in a formal dining room. |

I would have liked to just once see her come down to breakfast in an old bathrobe, her hair up in curlers, covered by a scarf. |

Now that would be something to see. June not all coiffed and well dressed making breakfast.
Like Lucy did in several episodes. She made me laugh every time especially when she’s dressed like a hillbilly when Look magazine photographer comes and she shoots a bear. |

I'm a little confused. I know they called the character played by David Kent, Scott...in this episode. In Beaver's Long Night, Lumpy called him Bill. In the credits of that episode he's listed as Bill Scott. In the Weekend Invitation credits (according to Wikipedia), he's Scott. (He's Bill Scott in Eddie Quits School--I doubt he's in any other episode.)
I know they occasionally had trouble with names, but not usually within the same season. |
