The 1st season of Leave It To Beaver has short teaser scenes before the opening credits. Episodes 1-16 have narrations by Hugh Beaumont. Episodes 17-39 are a little different, the teaser is a brief scene that is shown again later in the episode.
A few years back when I bought Shout Factory's complete series DVD, I was not happy at all to find out that they screwed up the 1st season episodes. Many episodes have the teaser AFTER the opening credits instead of before where it's supposed to be . So this is what I ended up doing. I bought Universal's 6 disc 1st season DVD, because all the episodes are done correctly on that set. I then disposed of the 1st season discs from Shout Factory except for disc 1 because it has the bonus feature/radio interview. Has anyone else done this same thing? |

I haven't bought Leave It to Beaver yet, although I've been thinking about it. I probably wouldn't do the same as you, but I might buy the Universal set if it's single sided.

I have the Shout set, but I didn't know about this problem. I might do the same thing.
My problem with the Shout set is, at least on my copies, a lot of the intros have bad quality, but this covers all seasons. I know Shout gets a lot of kudos, but my problem with them is that they don't go back and correct major problems, such as this, or a few of their season sets (of other shows) that have edited rather than complete episodes. |

For season 1, I recommend the 6 DVD set from Universal. No problems with that set, and it also contains the original pilot episode as a bonus, with different actors playing the roles of Ward and Wally. |

I held on to my 1st season release of Leave It To Beaver for that reason. I had almost given it away when I got the Complete Series release, glad I didn't.

I just checked and found that I have the Universal set--I've had it for a long time, and it's the 3 disc version. I have another series set on double sided discs, and it's horrible.
I assume the Universal 6 disc set is still in print, right? (Just checked--yes, it's on Amazon.) MeTV plays off commercial DVD--that would explain why the teaser opening is out of order on most of their airings--they're using the Shout version. |
