Did you think there were too many episodes involving Mark Templeton as the frogman and were they just too outlandish to believe?

They did go on for far too long, maybe 2 episodes max, but anymore was overkill. And besides, they made Granny look like a total idiot, she couldn't possibly be as dumb as she acted in these episodes. She was always a pretty much a wise acre till these shows when she turned into a hopless dunce.

I agree that these were pretty dumb episodes and I love the Beverly Hillbillies.

Yes, they were stupid but I still enjoyed them because they were ridiculous and absurd---which I love.

I thought 2 or 3 episodes would have been plenty and it really did make Granny look silly believing that Mark was part frog. But I imagine there are plenty of fans that didn't mind those episodes.

Any woman who could do doctorin' shouldn't have thought a guy could be part frog.

This was 9th season stuff. The writers were plumb runnin' out of ideas--it showed in the ratings, too.

I didn't like that saga too much, I thought Granny's terror was a little bit TOO extreme and REAL for such a light hearted show. Especially in the final when Granny thinks Jed is got in mind to drown her in the cement pond and she's begging him not to and terrified, while Jed won't even SAY anything to ease her about what is going on, that just didn't leave me feeling good and left me feeling uneasy. Jed SHOULD have just came in and said, "Mark is not part frog and it's just a suit," there was no reason to drag Granny out there terrified and not even tell her what's going on.

It also did not make any sense for Jed to just SUDDENLY get the revelation that Granny thought Mark was part frog...She had been SAYING that all along. When did Jed finally get the idea?

I'd rather watch the frog episodes than the Shorty episodes from season 8....that saga ran way too long and I never cared for the Shorty character.

Now you're talking, those Shorty episodes are absolutely horrible. I can't stand that Shorty character, he's a liar, he's sneaky, he's lazy and he's a bum. What's there to like about him anyway? Not only were there way way too many Shorty episodes even after he finally seemingly left the long run of Shorty shows after just a few episodes later HE RETURNED AGAIN!!! Another long line of unbearable Shortys. Someone on that show must have liked him a lot they, kept bringing him back for endless episodes. I think the guy must have had something on one of the producers. One Shorty episode would have been more than enough.

I think the whole series is terrible, I've never been a Beverly Hillbillies fan. Rural folk striking it rich and moving to the city just doesn't do it for me. I prefer watching Green Acres which has the opposite gimmick, husband and wife from the city moving to the rural country. I haven't seen Petticoat Junction in a while, but overall I find that show to be boring and on the dull side.

I don't agree with that at all. Sure the last year of Bev. Hillbs. was not nearly as good as all the previous years, too many mult-part episodes and worse those multi-part episodes usually featured unlikeable characters and really stupid storylines and Granny was insultingly stupidfied. Seems if the show had ended one or 2 years earlier it may have been better off. But still, the series is one of the very best from the '60's even if it's not loved by all. The oh so mighty and wise critics of the time didn't like the show either. But, fortunately, the people's choice won out. Hmm, sounds like the same situation today with our stand up for the USA president and who the oh so wise and all knowing way out lib media can't stand.

By the way, today's Thurs. so it was time for another Joey Bishop Shoe ep. Talk about lame and completely UNFUNNY, it's just one long 1/2 hour bore session. I haven't laughed or even snickered once thru this mess. How did they ever think they'd get away with changing the whole premise of the show from one season to the next anyway. Now the color shows, Joey's suddenly a superstar who's friends with the hoi poloi of show biz. What a load of crap this show was.

Which episode are you talking about? If you're talking about the Edgar Bergen episode, RTV aired that one today, I'll agree, that one isn't very good, it's pretty lame. Joey Bishop Show is like other sitcoms, not all episodes are great. But overall, Joey's show is pretty good, I like it. For those who don't like it or don't see the humor in it, oh well that's the way it goes.

Maybe you're talking about the last episode of the 1st season, I think Antenna TV ran that one today. If you didn't like it and think it's so bad, why did you watch it?

The 1st season is OK but it's weaker than the other 3 seasons. Seasons 2, 3, and 4 are better.

Um, I'm watching my DVDs I made from Antenna TV when they first started showing the Bishop show, in fact I'm still watching the shows (once every Thurs) that Antenna first put on in that premiere New Years Marathon, I'm still watching shows from that marathon! They do skip around in that new year marathon, so I guess it's more jarring the way Joey's situation keeps changing from episode to episode.

Today I watched the Buddy Hackett guest star episode where Danny Thomas appears in the end. I've always like Buddy Hackett too, he was a riot on the old Tonight Show w/Johnny but on Joey he's just an in-your-face big-mouthed "jokester" who's every quip falls flat. And Joey actually cracks numerous smiles or fake laughs in this episode in response to Buddy's un-funny remarks and actions. Joey's forcing these laughs, of course, but I would rather he remained his usual stone-faced foul personality instead of seemingly encouraging Buddy's annoying "jokes".

And bringing an elephant thru a whole uppity apartment house up to Joey's apt. to supposedly give it to Joey's baby!! Who the heck does this? Or could do this? I can just see the doorman allowing an elephant to walk thru the whole apt. to supposedly go live in Joey's place and then idiot Joey tells his now over-night new manager Sal Mineo, or whoever (& whatever happened to that stork imitator that used to be Joey's manager, anyway?) he tells the guy to take the elephant down to the basement. Right, that's the perfect place to keep an elephant, in an apartment building basement. AHHHH, I can't stand it anymore! I gotta stop talking about the idiocy.

Joe Besser, is still the only good thing in this show though, he acts overly happy and way too sub-serviant to that moron Joey. And the wife uses that fake Marilyn Monroe voice all the time, I know she didn't really talk like that.

As I said, this show's a mess. Why do I watch? Why do they climb Mt. Everest? Because it's there, because I have all episodes on DVD now and I have to watch it or throw it out. I can't bring myself to throw even lousy shows out though.

I also recorded the episodes from Antenna TV and made my own DVD's. I have all episodes from seasons 1, 3, and 4, didn't have to record season 2 because I have the retail DVD set that came out several years ago. It's too bad the complete series DVD set that came out recently is such a botched job, they threw the syndicated/edited versions of the episodes on the DVD's, very disappointing.

I like Joe Besser in this show too, he's usually funny. "Jillson And The Cinnamon Buns" is a good episode, very funny.

There's two episodes where Buddy Hackett guest stars, one in season 2 and again in season 3, neither episode is that good and they aren't among my favorites.

Two episodes from season 3 that I really like are the one where Phil Foster and Leo Durocher are guest stars, that one is very good, lots of laughs. I also like the episode "Joey The Comedian vs. Larry The Writer". Very good also. The episode with Jack Jones is good too.

Joey Bishop's sitcom isn't an all time classic, I know that, but overall I think it's a fun show and it's a good time capsule from the era it was made, early to mid 1960's.
