SO, Exactly How Much Beer..........

.........did Richie actually drink that night? This question has haunted me ever since I first saw that particular episode some 40+ years ago!

Paraphrasing here.......

Howard asks a very plastered Richie how much he had to drink. And Richie replies......We only had beer, in teeny weeny little glasses! Howard responds......and exactly how many of those teeny weeny little glasses of beer did you have? Richie replies.......72!!!

Here is where my question comes into play. How big.....or how teeny weeny.....were those teeny weeny little glasses? If they were shot glasses.....1.5 ounces.......then 72 of them equals 108 fl ozs, which is the equivalent of exactly 9 twelve ounce beers. I can't really imagine ANYBODY drinking beer out of a shot glass, seems rather silly. But if the glasses had been much bigger than a shot glass, then Richie really tied one on that night. If he had been drinking beer out of a juice glass......4 fl ozs.......and he had 72 of those, then he slammed down 288 ounces of beer.....the equivalent of 24 twelve ounce beers. That is the same as 4 six-packs! I can't really see Richie slamming back that much beer, especially if he had never drank before!

Just trying to get some conversation started! Thoughts anybody??????

I think if Ritchie had anywhere near 72 glasses of beer, he would have lost count way before he reached 72. So I don't think we can trust that Richie knew how much he had to drink.
