It is with great sadness I announce that Marty Allen, the short, stocky, wide-eyed entertainer known for his "Hello Dere" opening line he used in each performance, died last night, February 12, at age 95. Marty passed away of Pneumonia in Las Vegas, surrounded by his wife since 1984, Karon Blackwell. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 23, 1922 as Morton David Alpern, adopting the stage name Marty Allen after starting his career with singer Steve Rossi, forming the partnership Allen & Rossi from 1957-1968, the duo eventually appearing on The Beatles' 2nd of 4 episodes of "The Ed Sullivan Show." Before that, however, Marty enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, during which he earned a Soldier's Medal for his Bravery during a fire which happened while a plane was being refueled. In later years, he was proud of his Military Service. After Allen & Rossi amicably ended their partnership, Marty Allen appeared as an actor in dramatic roles such as "The Big Valley," as well as a series of appearances as a Celebrity Guest on TV Game Shows in the '70s & '80s. Marty became a widower in 1976 when his then-wife, Lorraine Trydell ("Frenchy") died of Cancer in Los Angeles, California at age 50, eventually marrying Karon Blackwell in 1984; he had ZERO children with either of his 2 wives, Marty remaining married to Blackwell til he died last night. Say "Hello Dere" to Jesus, Marty Allen, and God Speed. 03/23/1922 - 02/12/2018 |

Interesting to know about Frenchy. I saw the couple on Tattletales a few months ago with an episode prior to 1976.
