There seems to be alot of talk about moms on TV over the years. But there's not as much on TV Dads,
Wondering what everyone's favorite and not-so-favorite dad is on sitcoms. A few opinions I have: Cosby--he'd be fun I think Ward Cleaver --used to scare the bejeepers out of me. Wally and the Beaver were scared of him too. Jim Anderson(Father Knows Best) Herman Munster ---goofy for dads Mr. Sheffield on The Nanny-very aloof and clueless when it came to his kids Bill Bixby (Courtship of Eddie's Father)--probably one of the best Alan Thicke (Growing Pains)- he tried to understand the kids. Wasn't he a psychologist? Gomez Addams-Was he aware he had kids? Dan Connor (Roseanne) - couldnt relate real well to the girls I dont think |

You pointed out that Dan Conner couldn't relate to his daughters. While that may be true, it is safe to say that is a realistic portrayal of the state of Father/daughter relations.
Family sitcoms are generally like that. The Mom runs things in the house, while Dad works and has no clue what his kids are up to. The 50's shows had the Moms and Dads actively involved in raising the kids, while the more curent shows portray Dad as the working guy out of the loop with the things going on with the family. While I am sure real households are not like that, it makes for good situation comedy. |

My fave sitcom dad is Steven Keaton from Family Ties. He seems
really nice. My most unfave sitcom dad is Phillip Banks from Fresh Prince Of Belaire. Sometimes he just seems to have too much of a bad temper problem. When he gets angry he can seem kind of scary. |
