Oh No R.I.P. Dolores O'Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries

Limerick singer and Cranberries front woman Dolores O’Riordan has died suddenly in London at the age of 46.

Her publicist Lindsey Holmes confirmed the news in a statement which reads: "The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session. No further details are available at this time.

"Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

The circumstances of her death are as yet unknown.

O'Riordan, a native of Ballybricken, shot to fame in the early 1990s as frontwoman of The Cranberries
Speaking to the Limerick Leader, family friend Canon Liam McNamara said: "My heart goes out to the family. Dolores was their pride and joy. We all loved her very, very much."

Fr McNamara was a was a co-celebrant at Dolores' wedding to tour manager of rock band Duran Duran, Don Burton in Holycross Abbey in County Tipperary in 1994.

He added: "She got on well all the way through her life. I was very disappointed to hear today that she has left us so early in life. Her family did so much for her and supported her all the way through."

O'Riordan, a native of Ballybricken, shot to fame in the early 1990s as frontwoman of The Cranberries. Their debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? was a massive success and the band went on sell over 40 million records worldwide.

Their hits included Zombie, Linger and Dreams. O’Riordan’s haunting vocals were the act's main selling point and they released five original albums before taking a break in 2003.

O'Riordan also released two solo albums, 2007's Are You Listening? and 2009's No Baggage, during the hiatus and The Cranberries reformed in 2009. In 2017, the group cancelled their US and European tours due to illness with O'Riordan citing back problems.

The Cranberries released a new album entitled Something Else in 2017, featuring acoustic versions of their hits along with three new songs.

The singer appeared as a judge on RTÉ's The Voice of Ireland during the 2013/14 season. In April 2014, O'Riordan joined D.A.R.K., with former Smiths bassist Andy Rourke and New York producer and DJ, Olé Koretsky.

Really sad. The Cranberries is one of the first bands my wife and I saw in concert together when we were first dating.

Very shocked and devastated to her of her passing. I never had the chance to see The Cranberries live. My fiance and I had plans to see them last Fall, but the tour was canceled due to Dolores's back issues.

My first album of The Cranberries was actually supposed to be No Need To Argue but at the music store they never had it so I bought Everyone Else Is Doing It So Why Can't We? and I found out that the song Linger was actually my favorite after hearing it in a supermarket. I then finally got No Need To Argue and my favorite song of The Cranberries was Zombie and that song is so fun to sing and I always liked to sing the chorus of Zombie along with Dolores O'Riordan and I just liked it. I also got Dolores's solo album and I liked it as well

Cranberries Singer Dolores O’Riordan Died by "Drowning Due to Intoxication"
by Stewart Clarke
Sept. 6, 2018

Dolores O’Riordan died by drowning due to alcohol intoxication, an inquest into the death of The Cranberries singer told on Thursday.

The Irish singer was found dead in the bath of a London hotel in January. An inquest into her death is taking place at Westminster Coroner’s Court. The inquest heard that there was no evidence of injuries or self-harm and the coroner ruled her death was an accident.

O’Riordan was found on the morning of Jan. 15 at the Hilton in London’s Park Lane. The inquest heard that she had been drinking heavily, and was four times over the legal limit for driving. She was also taking prescription drugs.

U.K. police had already said her death was not suspicious. The coroner at the inquest, which was held on what would have been O’Riordan’s 47th birthday, said her death was “a tragic accident.
