Is anyone else as hot and bothered by the charming and delightful Katie Holmes? Is there such thing as an unflattering angle or photo of her? Just wondering. That lousy teen soap is a painful dramatic lesson but almost worth it for glimpses of this goddess.
Politically Incorrect gets the ax. ABC spent years trying to find a good match for to go with Ted Koppel and they finally hit pay dirt with P.I. The show is the first and only successful post Nightline venture in ABC's late night history. It got the ax because host Bill Mahr opened his mouth and made the now infamous coward statement after September 11th. Advertisers ran and the G.O.P run Disney corporation realized that they had to do what is best for the grand old party. It's not Disney stock holders they are answering to, it's Haley Barbour. The good news is that ABC is on it's way to a solid fourth place finish next year. It's schedule a mess and hasn't had a real hit in prime time in years. P.I.'s getting canned will only add to the erosion of it's late night audience and hurt the bottom line. Are you lucky enough to have BBC America? It is nothing like the real BBC and cheap, lengthy commercial plague the schedule, what is that blue cream pain reliever and it's big BBC America ad buy tells me the audience is an aged one, but it is the only place to catch the fine BBC comedy "Coupling." The 6 character drama is both smart and sharp and actually funny. It's rare these days in most comedies. Isn't it about time that Andy Roony hung up his hat on '60 Minutes'? I caught his bit on libraries last week and nearly tossed my cookies. No fiction in libraries because they should be used for research only? All librarians should be woman? Andy, please. Time to call it a day. Perhaps he could guest star on the "Diagnosis Murder" reunion flicks? http://winkwilliams.blogspot.com/ |

Trouble is, after the initial firestorm about Nightline and PI, just as everything else that has happened in the name of false patriotism in this post 9-11 era, the unseemly issue was shoved into a remote corner of the landscape and forgotten. It would be nice to think that ABC and Disney would be a bit more upstanding with future decisions, especially if viewership dwindles, but I wouldn't count on it.
