Default Mary Ann Perez's remains may have been found

According to this article posted today, the remains of Mary Ann Perez may have been found/identified.

Mary Ann's case was one that wasn't really much of a mystery IMO, as a serial killer named David Courtney confessed to abducting and killing a woman matching her description. Certain details that he mentioned seemed to be something that only the killer would know (e.g. throwing her purse off of a bridge). Also, he and his wife lived in the area at the time and he identified Mary Ann as one of his victims. The only "mysteries" about the case were the location of her body and the phone calls that were probably a hoax.

Now, a retired detective who worked on the case stated that the police believe remains located in November of 1976 belong to her. The remains matched her physical description and had clothing and jewelry that matched what she was wearing when she vanished. However, police and her family have noted that they are waiting for DNA results before there is a final confirmation.

The retired detective also hopes that Courtney, who is still in prison, will be charged with Mary Ann's murder if the remains belong to her.

I came here to post the same thing. I always felt that David Courtney killed her, given his track record. If the remains are Mary's, then I hope her family will receive closure all these years later.

I hope that family can finally get the closure they deserve.

It is for me. Not only is the entire segment dark and grainy, and interspersed with unsettling music, but you imagine the fear and terror Mary Ann must have felt when she woke up in the Courtneys' trailer, or being driven past her route home afterward.

Like many young women, I've had my share of nights out in which I've done a little more drinking than was prudent. I think of all the times I could have very well ended up in a situation not unlike Mary Ann's and it chills me to the bone.

Hopefully this is it, and another old case can be officially solved.

I’ve always wondered how couples like the Courtneys can be so demented and do such horrible things together. It is a messed up world.

I figured it was Courtney. Given how drugged up and out of their minds he and his wife seemed, biffing the location of Mary Ann's body isn't at all unreasonable

I agree. I think it's even scarier that instead of outright killing her in their trailer, they pretended they were going to take her home I'm pretty disgusted to hear that the wife has been paroled. She has no business being out on the streets.

In any case, I hope the remains are identified ASAP so there can be some answers.

So according to this article, the case is basically solved!

A Mobile, Alabama investigator trying to investigate the skeletal remains found in 1976 learned about Mary Ann's case. He talked to her family and learned that she had been in a car accident a few months before she vanished. They also noted that she had a partial dental plate on her upper front teeth. The investigator felt it was "almost a perfect match" as the Jane Doe had a partial dental plate in the same place and there was evidence on her remains that she was in a car accident. Also, Mary Ann's physical description seemed to match the Jane Doe

However, at first, they couldn't locate the actual remains. Then, the investigator was able to get in contact with someone from the Oklahoma state attorney general's office. The remains were being stored in a warehouse in Oklahoma. Currently, DNA testing is being done in a Texas lab, and the results should be back in a few weeks.

It seems, though, that the investigators are certain that this IS Mary Ann Perez!

Here is the Jane Doe's NamUs page.

Well, I wouldn't call it solved until we know for sure who killed her....

That's true. If this really is Mary Ann Perez, it is possible that David Courtney is the actual culprit, but I don't think we'll ever know for sure. In any case, I hope this gives her family some sense of closure.

Mary Ann's picture is on the front page of Yahoo today. The Washington Post article tells us basically what we already know.

Eagerly awaiting the results of the DNA test.

I think each and every year we will be solving some of these big cases.

It's amazing to me. I have been on a brief unsolved mysteries hiatus for a few months, but anytime I come back here to lurk, I see something else new. This is news to me, and I hope that it is her.

The most chilling part from memory of this episode was the phone calls, years and years after her death to her family. I have never understood why anyone could be so cruel.
