I put a DVD in it to make screen caps, and I'm having a helluva time getting it to eject the disc. It makes a whirring noise but the disc won't come out.

And to make it worse, it's a library DVD.

P.S.: It happened last night.

Have you tried cleaning the disc tray on your iMac? I have had this problem with my DVD player but the door doesn't close all the way but it still manages to work. It could be that you might need to take the DVD out and clean the disc tray on your iMac and if you still have trouble trying to eject the DVD you might need to unplug your iMac for a few minutes and then after a few minutes try plugging in your iMac again and it should eject the DVD perfectly. Also when you try to put another DVD in your iMac's disc tray does the door not close all the way? That could also be a factor as well

turn it off then stick a paperclip in the little hole beside the eject button on the tray door

if it is slot loading i'm not sure what you'd do - I'm assuming iMacs have a BIOS setup that you could enter at startup and try to eject it from there? (literally know nothing about apple products)

uugghh I think we all have that problem!!!!

I hate putting anything in there for reasons you mentioned

You’ve got an old iMac if yours has a DVD drive. I have a Mac Mini. That’s just a tower because the all-in-one configuration of an iMac worries me if something breaks.

I have good news: I turned it on last night, and I waited a couple of minutes before trying to eject the DVD. I clicked on the eject icon, and it worked! That means it won't have to be taken it to get it fixed.

Its good it came out!!! (Im on Win98se and sometimes pressing EJECT doesnt work right for some reason (UUGGHH))

I'm very happy that you got your iMac fixed Ohio8. That's great that your computer can work again because it's tough when computers don't work sometimes
