Larry Joseph Cohen died on Dec. 17 at home, peacefully. He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn, his spouse of 61 years, and his sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren: Robert married to Melanie, sons Alan and Danny, Michael married to Christianna, daughter Natasha, Jon married to Tatsinda, daughter Noelani, and many nieces and nephews. They were all the love of his life. Larry moved to Los Angeles at age ten from Indianapolis, Indiana with his parents, Sam and Edith and his adored brother Stanley. He went to Los Angeles High School. He attended UCLA and graduated with a BA from Berkeley. Larry became a successful screen and television writer with his partner, Fred Freeman. He found success first writing episodes of "Gilligan's Island," "The Dick Van Dyke show," "The Andy Griffith Show," and many other gems from the golden age of television. Larry and Fred wrote the 1970 cult classic feature film "Start The Revolution Without Me," followed by the "Big Bus," and "Delirious." Larry continued writing to the end, spreading his humor in published short stories, and always in correspondence with friends and family. Larry never turned away from an aspiring writer seeking his advice. He was an art lover and art collector, with a keen eye for talent. We will miss him dearly, and his love and humor will always live in our hearts and minds. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to Larry's favorite causes: Doctors Without Borders, St Jude Hospital and the UN Refugee Agency. Services will be held at Hillside 6001 W. Centinela, December 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., in the large chapel. |
