Default Was that a dig at Shelley Long?

I was watching the episode where the guys go to a Godzilla marathon last night, and they were talking about how one of the actresses left after a couple of movies. And Woody said something like "Why would an actress want to leave a successful series halfway through?"

Anyone else notice this?

I never saw this episode...maybe coincidence or maybe it was intended.

I don't remember seeing that episode but if it was geared toward Shelley then that was downright rude! Sorry I can't help myself occasionally.

I've never seen the episode, but from what you wrote, it sounds intentional. That would be quite a coincidence if it wasn't. If it was, it wasn't Woody Harrelson's fault because he just reads what's written for him.
My vote goes for--that was a dig at Shelley Long.

I saw that episode and the first thing I thought was, it was a dig at Shelley Long, so I think it was intentional.

Thumbs down

I absolutely agree that this was a positive "dig" at Shelley. Personally, some of the feelings towards Shelley presented by the rest of the show's creators and other members, were ridiculous and rude at times. They treated Shelley like a second class citizen after she left. Everyone complained that she was a "perfectionist" and was prim and proper. Well, I question if they have ever heard the phrase "to each their own". I never could grasp why they just didn't accept Shelley for her personality, which in my opinion, is the way that actors should act. She was a serious performer, there is nothing wrong with that. If this is a "dig" than it just shines a light on the immaturity expressed by other parties involved with Shelley's departure.

I strongly believe that was aimed at Shelly as well. To me it seemed like it was all in fun. It struck me as funny. Along with Lilith, Diane is my favorite character.

Roseanne: The New Becky.

Roseanne: I can't believe "Bewitched" would try to have 2 Darrins.

Jackie: They figured the show was such a hit that they could get away with it.

Becky #2: I like the second Darrin better.

I thought the line was funny. Cheers was in a self-referential mood during season 11.

One other reference to the past was also in that episode. A guy named Gus who used to own the bar shows up. The first time a Gus was mentioned, it was in the season 1 episode where Coach tries to help some guy with a problem. In that episode, Gus was owner before the owner who sold Sam the bar and deceased.

In the season 11 episode, Gus was the owner who sold Sam the bar and Coach was deceased. I guess it is possible that two guys named Gus could have owned Cheers.
