Jeffrey Tambor in "Transparent" Contract Limbo as Amazon Sexual Harassment Probe Resumes
by Dominic Patten December 6, 2017 Contractual reality and a renewed investigation by Amazon into sexual harassment claims against Jeffrey Tambor look to stymie the scant possibility that the Emmy winning actor could return to "Transparent". As Deadline reported back on November 14, almost a week after the first accusation surfaced, writers on the culturally sensitive show started working on stories that did not included Tambor’s Maura Pfefferman character. An exercise that has continued in more recent weeks to varying degrees. That exercise that also takes on a more concrete form as Amazon has still not exercised picking up Tambor’s contract option for the Season 5 of the Jill Soloway created series. Or, to put that in a great context – Season 5 options for other core cast members Gaby Hoffman, Jay Duplass, Judith Light and Amy Landecker have all already been picked up, I hear. Despite those recent attempts by Tambor to walk back his November 19 pronouncement that “I don’t see how I can return to Transparent” after two members of the series came forward with allegations against the actor, two other factors may make his apparent exit inevitable – time and deduction. After losing one investigator, Amazon was delayed for most of last month in progressing with the announced probe into the claims by Tambor’s former assistant and transgender actress Van Barnes and "Transparent" semi-regular Trace Lysette, I’ve learned. While a new investigator was brought on-board after a bit, scheduling issues with Barnes and other matters prevented the examination from picking up the pace again until after Thanksgiving. Lystette and "Transparent" writer Our Lady J have both advocated removing Tambor from the show. After praising Lysette for her “leadership” the transgender scribe said online on November 17 that “we cannot let trans content be taken down by a single cis man.” Another accusation of sexual harassment was made against Tambor on November 22, but that is unrelated to his time on "Transparent". As it is, the Amazon investigation into the two claims that Tambor strongly denies has now jumped fully into gear again. However, it still could take a few more weeks to wrap things up and even into the new year. Time that is ticking as plans and scripts are penciled in for that fifth season of the Soloway created show. At this point, before the investigation makes its conclusions, the best possible outcome for Tambor is one that could see his lead character making a minor appearance on an upcoming "Transparent" season – and even that looks thin. Neither Soloway nor Amazon responded to request for comment today. “No final decision for next year has been made, either by Jeffrey or by Amazon,” a spokesperson for Tambor said Wednesday to various media outlets. http://deadline.com/2017/12/jeffrey-...on-1202221493/ |

I watched this show because of Jeffrey Tambor since he is a favorite actor of mine (prefer his comedy, he's hilarious as stupid characters, but is also a fine dramatic actor. The story was somewhat interesting also.
My understanding is that there are several "transgender" people on the show who wanted a transgender person to play the role. From this show, I now know what a 'cisgender' is, a person who identifies with their gender from birth, so 99.99999 percent of us are 'cisgender'. So part of this is truly prejudice of them more than Tambor's acting or ability. |
