Default Whatever happened to good Christmas songs on the radio these days?

With the holiday season in full swing I've noticed that if you turn on the radio stations during the holiday season when the radio stations have their holiday music starting in November and through December you can never find good Christmas songs on the radio anymore and I would like to know why this is? Is it because Christmas music is the next bestselling genre in music next to pop and country music for music artists? Because when I have listened to Christmas music every year it seems very hard to find a good Christmas song on the radio and if you want to hear a good Christmas song it seems that it can tricky to find and all the other Christmas songs are overplayed all the time. Take for example when Mainheim Steamroller released their first Christmas album their version of Deck The Halls became a hit every holiday season but you never hear any other Mainheim Steamroller Christmas song other than their version of Deck The Halls on the radio every year. Another Christmas song that was good when it came out but then got overplayed is Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You and when it debuted it was a Christmas hit when Mariah Carey released her Merry Christmas album in 1994 but then every singer has now covered All I Want For Christmas Is You on their holiday albums. And when Mariah Carey released her second Christmas cd Mariah Carey released a song called Oh Santa but you rarely hear it played on the radio during the holidays. Another band that has released Christmas cds that had great Christmas songs is Trans-Siberian Orchestra and it seems that the only song that the radio plays of that group is Carol Of The Bells and it tells me that good Christmas songs are disappearing from the radio these days
Has anyone noticed this about Christmas music these days?

I just wish that when Christmas music was played that the radio station would play more original material that has been put out there instead of just the songs that have been played so much over the years.

God bless you always!!!

Maybe it's because all the good little boys and girls stopped calling radio stations to tell the DJs that they don't what to hear about a grand ma getting run over by a rain deer 100X times a day. And if they don't start playing cool Christmas songs like - Father Christmas by the Kinks - Santa will bring them a lump of coal. Cheers and Merry Christmas!

They've moved to the internet. Pretty much anything you'd want is readily available.

I don't even listen to Christmas music on the radio anymore! I like the old classic Bing Crosby,Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra Rosemary Clooney type Christmas songs that I listen to on CD's!

And Opus is right Bestie, you could find the Christmas music you like on line!

You can also get these songs on CD-ROM. No commercials, stale jokes or depressing news reports as well. Just pure, sweet music.

I agree with the sentiment. I heard a children's choir sing Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and Winter Wonderland, but it seems that if the powers that be can't make money out of a song these days they're not going to play it.

Not really a Christmas song but still deep in my heart: https://youtu.be/fsgj4xcxXyA

Sirius XM radio has a Holiday Tradition Channel, that has uninterrupted
Christmas music (ie Ray Conniff, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole) it's been going since November 1 and goes to December 30.
You would love it! It's very nice.

The problem has been with Christmas for along time now on the radio whether it's the country, easy listening, rock station, top 40,50-70s staiton,80-90's station, moden top 40 etc whichever your choice they seem to rotate the same few songs every year. Guess that's the consequence of 1 company in the country controlling 60% of stations. With a real local dj creating a playlist they would be able to explore artists back catalog more and search for hidden and forgotten gems, instead of automated uniform playlists throughout the Usa.

Maybe they can't play them? Just look at Christmas movies. Ever notice how they air on certain channels?
