Default Beaver the Caddy

Funniest line.

When Beaver is about to caddy for Langley, Langley says how smart Beaver is probably be a nuclear scientist. Beaver says that or play for the LA Lakers. Lakers? Why Beaver couldn’t even dribble in Younger Brother.

LOL...I thought of that too! It seems if they can contradict something from an earlier episode, they'll do it!

I don't even remember those lines from the ep in which Beaver and Gilbert caddie. But there is something from my own history about this topic...

Our town had an independent baseball league for boys 8 to 14 (later it was just 8 to 12). I wanted to play on a team from when I was 8, and I did. But although I was a good player in school and when a group of guys got together and played on the schoolgrounds (no conflict about doing so then), I couldn't play worth tiddlywinks on a team. And that confused me-- why can I hit and catch and throw in 'unofficial' games but can't do anything on a league team, with a manager, umpires, and people watching? I finally began to realize that I have a "nervous reaction" under such conditions-- although I didn't know that term then. It took till I was 12 before I really came to terms with it and I made the all-star team in a game against the league champion. Even then I did not start the game-- some of that old reaction seemed to come back in the 2 or 3 practices the all-star team had before the game. I finally got into the game in the last couple of innings and my only at bat came when we were coming back in the game. As I walked to the plate the other guys were saying "Let him walk you!" as the pitcher had indeed walked 2 who had scored, and the guy before me hit a double. But the first pitch was right where I wanted it-- up in the strike zone and to the inside on the plate. I swung and hit a hard liner to left-center, knowing immediately the guy on second would score. But as I rounded first base I heard a reaction then saw the centerfielder chasing the ball--those fields back then did not have outfield fences. As I approached third, the coach there started rounding his arm and shouting "Go home! go home!..." So I went home and scored before the ball arrived to the catcher's right. So the guy who couldn't hit or do anything for years there hit a homerun in the all-star game-- all because I learned how to deal with a problem I have about nervousness. Well, actually, I never found out whether the official score was a homerun or whether I got one (or more) bases on an error, and I didn't see the centerfielder's play before I rounded first.

Anyway, that seemed to be Beaver's problem in the episode in which he was dropped from a basketball team after the first practice. With a coach supervising and other guys comparing, he just couldn't do a thing because of that type of reaction. He may have been-- we can probably say he surely was-- much better than he showed there. But if my case is anything 'typical,' it can take a long time to get it under control.

Great story. I bet you felt great. You always remember the good moments in life and unfortunately the bad moments. I was chosen to represent my 7th grade in a spelling bee and was the first one out. Ouch!!

My son was a good pitcher, first baseman and fielder but got too nervous at bat so he could never show off.

I think the coach didn’t give him a chance cutting him only after one practice. Not a very caring coach.
