...they left Hazel and Harold with George’s sister Deirdre instead of brother Steve? How long would it have taken for Deirdre to fire Hazel? Or would she have kept Hazel around just to torture her, and the show would have become a drama?

I think Hazel would have snapped at Deidra. She wouldn't put up with the social climber sister. I did pity Deidras husband. How did he put up with her.

Likely the very first plot would've had Deirdre wanting to send Harold off to a military school.
Anyway I think it would've been GREAT to have more romance leading to a marriage between Hazel's nephew and Deirdre's daughter. They could have done that regardless of which Baxters had Hazel as housekeeper. That poor daughter, talk about a domineering mom...! |

So I watch watching “Hazel’s Endearing Young Charms” the other day, and Barbara reveals that George and Dorothy DID ask Deirdre to take in Hazel and Harold before asking Steve and Barbara. Deirdre agreed to take Harold, but not Hazel. So I guess that explains why they were willing to ship the two off to a town an hour away. You’d think that George would have known better anyway. Even if Deirdre did agree to take Hazel, she would have been abusive.

There's something very satisfying thinking of Hazel finally getting what she deserves after years of disobeying Mr. B and going around everything he commands. To see Hazel snapping to and saluting Deidra is a joyful thought. I can just hear her highness Deidra politely requesting in an ever so pleasant tone, "Lift That Barge, Move That Bail, and Shut That Mouth!" Oh, to see Hazel finally suffering the way she made Mr. B suffer is so wonderful!

Deidre is one sitcom character with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I only watch Hazel casually since it airs on Antenna right after Dennis the Menace, but I don't enjoy the episodes she's in at all.

I'd like to see George let her have it, for once.
George's brother Steve is even worse with her. He lets her rule the roost about Susie's schooling, and doesn't even open his mouth. |

It would have been great when Dorothy ran off to help her relative of some sort with her broken leg, if George and Deidra both joined together and ordered Hazel to do her work and keep her trap shut. If she didn't, both George and Deidra could yell, "You're Fired". When Dorothy finally returns they could play dumb and just say Hazel went to Peru to join Robbie from My 3 Sons.
Then the series would become "Let George Do It" as Dorothy still wouldn't lift a finger around the house.
