Default Frustrating updates on Amazon episodes

I have noticed quite a few of these, with the Amazon episodes, it is a bit of an odd situation because we are technically getting more recent updates to resolved cases. Even though these are not newly filmed updates, they are more updated than the updates were in the Farina episodes.

Anyway, the Doreen Picard segment which I just watched again, has the update that Raymond Tempest was charged in the crime and “was sentenced to 85 years in prison for the crime. He has since been released”.

Now I know there are other circumstances in that particular case, but I have noticed similar updates for other cases. “So and so was convicted of 27 counts of 1st degree murder and given 18 consecutive life terms plus 90 years without the possibility of parole. He has since been released.” Yet other cases like Michael Scott Martin who allegedly stole $400 was given 20 years to life and they kept him in at least the 20 years. It’s just crazy to me.

Yeah there were definitely a few, none that I recall immediately, where it was like damn they're out, or appealed or whatever.

More so, with the Amazon ones, I just hate how repetitive the updates are. I don't understand the point of doubling up on the updates both after the segment and then 2-3 seasons later. Include them with the segment and then let that be it.

Yeah, I could see if it was for the sake of keeping the original episodes intact, they would show the updates as they appeared, but they haven’t kept many (or you might even say the majority) of the episodes as they originally were. Segments are switched around and edited out. I say show the update after the segment and call it good. They could fill the other space with segments that have not been released. Orange socks anyone?

But back to my original point, it is ridiculous if you compare the sentences some folks received after being caught, vs others. Confirmed rapists and murderers are given life sentences and then get released super early on parole. Other cases where it is highly questionable as to the persons guilt and they are put away for life and no chance of parole.

So many cases I have viewed recently on Amazon have an update and just as the update banner comes on, I’m thinking to myself “yeah, this s.o.b. is gonna be behind bars for all the people he killed and the families he made suffer” and then I find out they served 5 years of a life sentence and were released. That’s messed up.

I am not positive of this, but I also think they've edited out a few of the lost love reunion updates that were filmed and replaced them with generic text updates.

There's quite a few of these actually:

"Heck He's Gone" Tommy Heck segment from Season 3

The Daughter of Dave and Christie Carlsen from Season 8

The Siblings of Debbie Hamilton from Season 8
(The update showed Debbie at the telecenter talking to her foster brother)

The Siblings of Tina Shiets from Season 8
(The update showed Tina at the telecenter talking to her brothers and also showed a photo from their reunion)

Savior of Wendy Radcliffe from Season 8

Kelli Ann Ayres/Glendeen Butterfield from Season 9

Moises Treves from Season 9

It made sense what they started doing in Season 8 (show the text update with the original segment and show the full update in a separate episode), but I don't understand why they just didn't air any of these reunions above. There was plenty of space to put the updates in any of the episodes, since they don't need to fit a specific amount of time.

I almost have to wonder if there is a specific allotted time for Amazon to carry the show. Meaning that maybe they can’t go over 45 minutes or an hour per episode. Doesn’t make sense from a viewer stand point, but maybe something with their system set up? But yeah, with no network time slots, it shouldn’t matter how long anything is.

I'm guessing/speculating they're cutting them to standard length episodes so FilmRise can possibly sell the final episodes into televised syndication as well, but then the early episodes are somewhere like 50 minutes and the later ones are 45 so who knows ...

It wasn't just the Lost Love reunions either, there were a few Stack or KSS filmed updates from the official and unofficial DVDs for the crime stories that I noticed got replaced with the generic text as well.

I know they trimmed the Tim Binder segment in the same episode that an update on Jonathan Ortiz is included, which just blows my mind why they would be editing new content for updates already included in prior episodes.

You know what I'm confused about?

This.

Why is Comcast (my cable company) not changing to a picture of Dennis Farina? Instead, they put a picture of Robert and Virginia, when clearly that is not the version being shown.

Like, either Escape or Comcast is really lazy to put a picture of this guy up.

Ha. I'm sure they probably want to forget about the Farina version then by not putting a picture of him up then.

Maybe something for the Unpopular Opinions thread, but there is no Farina version. There is just some other really terrible show that aired on Spike that has nothing to do with Unsolved Mysteries. Name aside.

What I find most frustrating is trying to match the case with its punny title in the Amazon Prime episode descriptions...

That is why we have an episode guide for the Amazon Streaming episodes on this board, you can find your favorite segment with the exact name and not the Amazon nickname.
