Marilu Henner has something called Hyperthymesia. Hyperthymesia is a mental ability to be able to know everyday of someone's life. Supposedly, one can throw out a random date and the person can tell you what they did that day.
For example, ask her "March 13, 1967" and she can tell you it was a Monday, she was in tenth grade, and what she did at school that day, what she ate for dinner and anything else of that time (3/13/1967 is my birthday). She can also tell you what she did March 13, 1968, March 13, 1969, March 13, 1970 and so on. If you havent seen it, YouTube '60 Minutes, Marilu Henner', which is on the subject of Hyperthymesia and the people who have it. The piece researched five other people who have this, and it is very remarkable. Leslie Stahl who hosted, knew Henner and got her to be part of the program. What I liked was that they got all of the people together in one room including Henner and you can see that they have the same mental gift, or maybe disorder. Hard to put a finger on it, but the people were slightly nerdy and slightly eccentric, including Henner herself. There seems to be a degree of OCD associated with this, with Henner showing her walk in clothes and shoes closet, which was cordinated by color, and all of her shoes were set a certain way, toe to heel and heel to toe. While the subjects were all middle aged, none of them were married except Henner herself, who is on her third marriage. I would like to have this, but then again I would not. I would not want to have it because I do not want to revisit emotionally or physically painful episodes and put a date on it. But it would be cool to be able to recall stuff and it would be fun at parties, and I cannot help to think that this ability is useful in some businesses somewhere. To me, Marilu wasnt that much different than her character Elaine Nardo. Friendly, happy, laid back. Mixed well with the other subjects and not out of place because of her fame. I like the lady and question why her two previous husbands didnt work out. Maybe it was because Henner knew the past too well (Remember on October 26, 1976 when you got drunk and threw up on the couch, uh huh). Dunno. Fascinating stuff and worth a look. |
