Question Records that completely derailed a singer's career

Inspired by Todd in the Shadows' new series TRAINWRECKORDS:

To me, every album that was done with the other members of the Oak Ridge Boys is what ended up derailing my newest favorite singer because them other members eventually pushed him to the side and for why? To bring back the long lost member of ZZ Top? In my opinion, my late beautiful precious Steve Sanders is the one who made that act not only shine, but shine their absolute and total brightest...ever since his being kicked to the curb, they have been nothing but a big pile of uninteresting ash.

God bless you and Steve's family always!!!

Holly

P.S. Steve is the one at the top of this picture...I love him so much.

Christina Aguleira had been floundering for a while but Bionic completely killed her career. She was accused of being a Lady Gaga wannabe and bashed for using Autotune when she had one of the few pop voices at the time that didn't need it.

I also think Madonna's MDNA pretty much ended her run. She did have a mini-comeback with Rebel Heart, but I think MDNA was the one where maybe even some hardcore fans said enough. I love electronic dance music, but the music has to be listenable, pleasant, and make you want to dance. MDNA wasn't it, and it didn't help she had two of the most obnoxious artists, Nicki Minaj and MIA, guesting on it.

The long lost ZZ Top member is actually William Lee Golden who was with the band way before any of the others. Also, Sanders wasn't pushed to the side. He had personal issues at the time which were becoming problems for the rest of the band as well. Sanders gave notice to leave in 1995, but walked out on the band hours before a concert.

That's really a shame about Christina, too, because Lotus was full of great material.

I don't think any one album is going to derail Madonna's career or end her run. She hasn't been known for significant album sales in years but that doesn't stop her from being a mega superstar on the touring circuit. Because of her status alone, her last two tours combined grossed nearly $500 million.

I am well aware of all that. I am also well aware of the fact that William Lee's return was less than two months after the show that Steve did not stick around for, November 4th and December 31st beings those two dates.

God bless you two and Steve's family always!!!

Holly

P.S. If the other three members had been true friends, they never would've let Steve walk out that door, but instead I believe that they only used his private life as an excuse to make room for William Lee again.....every time that I look at him, I can not help but wonder if that long beard of his has ever gotten caught in his zipper.

Ok, if you were well aware of it as you say then why try to make it sound as though the other 3 are the ones at fault? Apologies if I've misread or misunderstood, but that's what it sounds like.

Are you sure they didn't try or is it only speculation? Whether they knew he was going to walk out or if he just up and left without a word makes no difference. William Lee's return was probably due to the fact that they needed him back ASAP and Sanders' departure opened the door for that. Since Sanders' personal issues were causing problems for the band it was probably only a matter of time before he was going to be let go anyway. When a band member has issues that affect the rest then changes are going to be made and Steve's case is only one of many such incidences. I'm curious though, would your opinion be any different if they had added a new singer rather than bringing William Lee back? Personally, I liked Steve Sanders. I thought he was a great singer and seemed to fit in well with the rest. I was saddened when he died and at the time had no idea of his personal problems. Regardless of what happened, Steve obviously made an impact because the biggest hit of their career featured him on lead vocals.

^^^ To me, it just seemed like the other guys frosted a cake that never should've been baked in the first place, Steve's first wife being the baker, but of course, if Steve was ready for something else to be on his plate, that right there would've been a whole other thing, but I highly doubt that is how it all went down. I just can't see him wanting to leave to go and do something else.

God bless you and those who loved him always!!!

Holly

P.S. Thank you for being a fan of Steve. I love to watch him during this video.
