I agree. I think the addition of Stephanie worked wonders for the show.

And the addition of Larry, Darryl and Darryl really added to the show as well!

I agree. I thought the shows were better before it became The Steve Urkel Show. Same with Happy Days although I liked the show up until Richie left.

Definitely. Used in moderation, Urkel could have been just fine. Instead, the show devolved into Steven/Stephan/Myrtle/Urkel-bot/Urkel-clone/etc.

Richie was the show. When he left, that should have been the final episode. Instead, the show lingered on in Hell for another four seasons.

I think Wings got better after its first season.

Most shows get better after their first season as they develop and get more into a groove. The more unusual cases are the event/watercooler shows that start real big like Empire and then have trouble topping their debut season.

One of the biggest improvements from 1-2 was Parks and Recreation. With just a few character tweaks the show improved in season two and then improved even more in season three as Rob Lowe and Adam Scott joined the show. The show just got funnier and the relationships grew stronger.
